Well, this week I was informed about changes on Channel M, apparently they now no longer take sky news but instead Euro news in the mornings 6-12, and they have launched thjier very own news programme, "Channel M News".

Presented by none other than Andy Crane himself from "the triangle" in central Manchester, it's a mix of local news programme, with other bits and pieces thrown in, from music to hanging baskets. Considering what the budget mnust be it is actually quite good.

Anyway, here a video of the opening titles, (sorry about the big hicup in the middle).

Sorry about the quality, but it's the best I can do.

Would I be right in thinking that Channel M is a TV station broadcast from Manchester, and is only available to those is the local area so to speak.

From the looks of that, thank God it's only available in Manchester!

Shame that Channel M looks like tat though Sad Why does Andy Crane keep saying TONIGHT at the beginning of each story, it dosen't make any sense?

Ah yes, I saw Andy recording one of his news bulletins in the channel M "newsroom" as I walked past one day. Naturally it looks like nothing more than a shop front with a channel M logo in it! I actually used to watch it when Sky News was on up until about 2 weeks ago, then that damed Euronews started. It ain't a patch I tell ye!

That sounds like Citytv in Canada. They have specialists on their newscasts for everything: your standard Weather and Sports; plus Education, Crime, Environment, Entertainment, even Trends. We joke they call their cleaning lady a "Sanitation Specialist".

From what the captures show it doesn't look too bad, a good idea, something that I would want to watch, but I haven't got a hope in hell of getting Channel M, especially if the picture is like that in Greater Manchester.

I think something like that would work on BBC1 or ITV.

First time I've ever seen 'Manchester Weather', something that is very city-like, only seen in London really.

Plus Andy Crane!! He must seem to hang round for whatever is going in the North West nowadays, I think he used to be on Jazz FM, but that changed to Smooth FM.

Good god, never thought I'd see the day when "Whose got the biggest hanging basket in Greater Manchester?" would be a news story.

The whole things quite funny to watch actually, like the bit before the break they tell us whats still to come, then they switch to a random camera above manchester and play out the full music. You keep expecting for the logo to fly in but it just never happens.

Anyway, I'll put some more pictures and videos of it up on my site soon.

To answer and earlier question, it's not all news. It's supposed to be Euro news between 6 and 12 in the morning and then general programming and music videos the rest of the time except between 6 and 8 in the evening when they have channel m news, one half hour repeated four times, though on Thursday (the day I recorded above clip) they had music videos until 7 so I couldn't really say.

They have a website at http://www.channelm.co.uk which has schedules and things, and of course there's my site http://www.ashfish.co.uk/m which has pres from the channel.

There could indeed be a link

Quote:

The Guardian Media Group has appointed Chum's City TV, a media company with local television stations based in Toronto and Vancouver in Canada, to advise on the shift towards news.

Mr Phillis added: "We are moving towards an all-new production format emphasising the importance of local news. I hope our own credentials in Guardian Media, the Guardian, the Manchester Evening News and all our weekly newspapers here are testimony to the value we put on quality journalism and quality news."

Looking to the future he added: "Ten years on, I am absolutely sure that across Britain, local television will be a reality.

"It is not going to be the same as the BBC national news or Granada regional news, it is going to be local news supplementing everything that happens in the Press and local radio and it will be relevant to the people who tune in and watch it.

"I have no doubt local television is going to mushroom when that switch to digital comes, and Manchester will be at the forefront of that. Just as the BBC and Granada made it a centre of excellence, who knows where Channel M can take us in terms of that vision."

The channel is to strengthen ties with Salford University this summer with students offered work experience and the opportunity to produce 24 hours of programming each year.
