Channel 4 is axing its lunchtime news bulletin and More4 News as part of a cost-cutting move that will place a number of journalism jobs under threat.

Staff at ITN, which produces Channel 4's news output, were told of the decision at lunchtime today. Channel 4 insiders said the aim was to protect the flagship 7pm bulletin, presented by Jon Snow.

The loss of News at Noon and More4 News will place an unspecified number of jobs at ITN under threat. Krishnan Guru-Murthy, anchor of News at Noon, will stay with Channel 4 News.

Controversial move.

How many viewers did the bulletin get?

Only ever watched News at Noon when The Daily Politics wasn't on...but always enjoyed it, I liked the more lighter tone it took...Khrisnan was a great anchor on it. Shame about More4...again only caught it now and then, but it did commission some good reports which were not covered in great depth by the mainstream news shows.

No surprise about More4 News - indeed surprised it lasted this long considering it's ratings, but such a shame the News at Noon bulletin is going - easily the best of the lunchtime offering, and arguably one of the best bulletins of the day. I'd have sacrificed the weekend news before that.

Wasn't really a fan of More 4 News, but it's sad to hear that the News at Noon is going. It always seemed like a pretty decent bulletin whenever I tuned into it. Another smack in the face for ITN, no doubt.

To what extent does Ofcom require Channel 4 to show news programmes, or is it not at all?

They're not actually required to show any.

Oh, great! If they want to save some more money I'll do some news.

Gutted. Without More4 News, how can I criticise Kylie Morris' awful taste in clothes? And, without News at Noon, where will the highlight of my life be where the little Irish man gets to present and has the whole big screen to himself, which visibly overwhelms him? Terrible.

News at Noon has always seemed a bit 'isolated' in the schedules to me. Before it is either repeats or education programming, and after it is repeats or maybe a Film. Not much else to draw the viewer to Channel 4 at that time. For this reason I wonder why bother with the proposed replacement lunchtime summary bulletin

Channel 4 News at lunchtime however is a relatively new thing - starting during the Iraq war
