Wonder if the same thing will happen to Richard Pallot when he returns from covering Italy for ITV?

Jon Snow .... in self isolation.

Where does this leave reporters from all news outlets who wish to cover this increasingly urgent story I wonder? They can't go near areas of coronavirus outbreaks without the problem that they themselves might need to be quarantined on return.

Jon Snow may not be relishing the prospect of his 14 day self imposed isolation but actually I would have thought that it must be far more tolerable in 2020 with the ability to access so much entertainment via tech and talk on social media, plus the skype he used to communicate with his studio, than it would have been in the not too distant past like in the 1970's or 80's.

I bet he'll be hoping a massive non coronavirus news story doesn't occur while he's holed up at home that means he has to sit it out as a mere observer.

Reporters are always going to areas to tell us the public have been told not to go to those areas.

Really? Or possibly like any other comfortably well off 72 year old, in a nice looking home, he probably won't give too much of a fook?

You don't know any journalists, do you? Any journalist worth his salt will tell you that they always want to be part of a massive breaking news story. Being forced to sit out a major story because of something like a quarantine, that will stick in a journalist's craw.

I don't just say so. I've had journalists tell me that directly.

You don't believe me, do you?

I'm not Fox News, I don't make stuff up.

I haven't met Jon Snow, though I would like to, I think he'd be a very interesting conversationalist, and a great guest, but I'm realistic enough to know that with him being in London most of the time, and me being in the South West, that's not likely to happen.

Thank you.

Sometimes when I say things, the way people react leads me to believe they don't believe me or they're not listening, and in an era where media personalities, journalists especially, are distrusted more than they're trusted, I actually want people to listen to me, to trust me. I might not get everything right 100% of the time, but I do my damndest never to lie, and I never make stuff up, so when somebody actually says "I believe you", that is actually gratifying, and heartwarming and rare.

Thanks for listening.

It's self evident to anyone, whether they have met him or not, that Jon Snow is someone who absolutely likes to get in the thick of a story given a chance, regardless of what age he is. He's just come back from Iran after all. He's clearly not wishing to see out his career as a mere autocue reader chained to the London news studio. I thought that came across very clearly in his home isolation interview with Matt Frei.
