As noted in the other forum, looks like there will be some changes to Channel 4 News production after all:

I'm really not a fan of split studio news bulletins - find it an unnecessary indulgence really and it can be quite awkward. Not so bad when it's studio/on location as there is a purpose for it, and if they had the budget anchoring every show on location at the scene of the top story might be worth it, but they don't, and it's not.

I think the worst/best example of news anchored from multiple locations is a recent Canadian revamp - think it might be The National with 4 anchors across three locations, and the intro is done split screen even with the people in the same studio.

Split location in one bulletin would seem daft, but perhaps if they anchored the 7pm from GIR and the noon/weekend updates from wherever else they opt for, that might be a simpler option.

Don't have time to dig into the other thread tonight, so apols if covered there, but the intent is pretty clear here .....

Channel 4 News will also expand its footprint in the nations and regions opening new bureaux giving a huge boost to regional representation, aiming to become the first peak-time national news programme to co-anchor from both London and the Nations & Regions from 2020. In partnership with ITN, the programme will establish three new Channel 4 News bureaux with one becoming a major hub with a studio, digital and commissioning centre, tripling the number of jobs based in the Nations & Regions by 2020.

We've been here before, 1989, ITN's segment of The Channel 4 Daily that was tri-presented from London, Washington, and Tokyo ?

Didn't one of the ITV regions do this before it was technically possible to split into sub regions? I'm thinking one of the south coast companies.

Obviously the BBC do it every day on Newsday.

I think you're thinking about Westcountry TV who split their main news program Westcountry Live into sub-regions into North, East, South and West for a roundup segment. Ah the great days of Westcountry TV

No I'm thinking of one of the early ITV companies, I'm pretty sure they were double headed from different studios in different cities rather than being separate programmes.

And Beyond 100 Days, works really well there. Al Jazeera English have presented from multiple locations since they launched, initially 3, now London and Doha

Coast to Coast when TVS launched had a weird format consisting on a pan-regional part and including the ITN News at 545.

Was that because the South East Coast to Coast elements still came from the old Southern TV studio in Dover before Vintners Park opened? (Not sure it was geared up for a 5 day a week full 30 minute show?)

I don't recall any dual headed presentation on Coast To Coast from its outset, or Southern's predecessor Day By Day. Living in the west, I'm not sure how much of Coast to Coast was pan regional though before Vinters Park was completed ? Under Southern's tenure Scene South East for the east was only on Wednesday (30 mins) and Friday (perhaps an hour ?). All other times Dover opted [1] away at the top of the show for 5 or 6 minutes of their own news.

Edit: Did they opt, or was it just a pre-recorded bulletin played out from the ACR-25 ?
All of the split commercials came from Soton, and Dover's output was switched via Soton
too. (ITV split sub-regional news operation isn't really that different today !)
