Is it just my telly, or are Channel 4 News having a few problems this evening? I've seen a few grey splats on screen - but it seems to be when they cut to the studio, so perhaps a problem with a vision mixer input or camera cable?

Something rather new and exciting online now. Channel 4 News turns into #wt4 online to debate about a North/South divide in politics, posing the question: 'Can the Tories win in the North?'

It's quite interesting to watch so far!

Why don't they put it on the tele?

I think they put it online to appeal to the more youth audience, who were encouraged to tweet and vote in an online poll on the same screen as the one they were watching.

Very sensible appointment. They would have been mad to give the role to anyone else

They could have put it on More4 instead of showing repeats.

Quite an obscure question here, but does anyone know when Alan Hawkshaw composed Best Endeavours, the Channel 4 News theme? I know it was first adopted by C4 News in 1983, but does anyone know when it was actually composed/published?

It's been used since day one I think, Nov 2 1982 ?

Although not answering your question, this article gives some more background

It hasn't been used since Day 1, as the video at the top of this page at TV Ark will prove... Smile

That link does prove it wasnt used since day one.

Quote:
The current music has heralded the start of the programme since 1982 and replaced the long-forgotten original theme after the programme underwent a revamp

People are saying "January 1983." as when the current theme come along.

Thanks for the info. I'm more interested in the date it was published as library music, i.e. how long did it sit there before being adopted by Channel 4 News?
