Anglia have a down-the-line studio in Cambridge, don't they? I can only assume this chap was also appearing on the BBC this evening and didn't fancy going to two different studios...

Perhaps not, though it's not that unusual for C4 News to use BBC DTL studios. Oxford is often used,
probably easier for academics from the city's establishments to access it, rather than ITV's shed in Abingdon (is that still even set up for DTL ?)

When they do a DTL from Birmingham they use a mix of Central's studio and newsroom and BBC Birmingham's DTL cupboard/dalek - which even more bizarrely uses a live shot from a 4:3 camera on the roof of Gas Street (Central's HQ)

Cathy Newman is reporting on Twitter that this evening's edition of Channel 4 News is the first ever in its history to be presented by two women! (The weekday main editions, that is).

I seem to recall Zeinab Badawi and Carol Barnes presenting together a gazillion years ago?

In the 1990s, it was quite common for Channel 4 News to be anchored by either Zeinab Badawi, Sheena McDonald or Tanya Sillem, with Cathy Smith, Jane Bennett-Powell, Daljit Dhaliwal or Judy Aslett reading the Headlines/Summary. It's certainly not a first, but as you say, just something that hasn't happened in ages!

C4 News often use BBC studios rather than the ITV equivalents. At one point local ITV facilities were quite tricky for C4 News to use ISTR - and BBC studios were far easier to arrange.

I’m not sure about that. All the regional ITV news rooms have dedicated lines in and out of ITN which C4N has on-going access to. So from a technical point of view, it will always be easier for C4N to use a regional ITV news room as the infrastructure is already in place.

I think use of regional BBC facilities might have more to do with occassional technical issues, locations, timings or perhaps guest availability.

I can think of at least one example where C4N were interviewing a live studio guest who was due to be interviewed on the BBC News Channel later that evening. However, the car sent by the BBC to pick him up got stuck in traffic so ITN was asked if it could arrange a down-the-line interview from GIR instead. I guess it works both ways?
