The closing theme is one minute in length. They just fade into it, depending on how long they have left to fill.

A full theme for the closing titles tonight. Similar to what they do at seven o'clock. Seemed strange, as they usually use a shortened version of the closing titles on the weekend news

Thats what I meant. It did seem strange though, to have most of the theme at the end of the weekend bulletin

I didn't see the bulletin but you alluded to a technical problem in an earlier post. Logic would suggest something failed and they were left with a bit more time to fill at the end? Hardly 'strange' - it happens quite frequently in TV.

Doesn't sound like they're too far down the line in determining what those changes will be, so I wouldn't expect much before the autumn.
I'm hoping they coincide with a change in C4's presentation - not the idents, but the rest of the package. I'm surprised the white theme has lasted so long without really being tinkered with at all - I think it's time for it to evolve a bit.

I think it still feels newer and fresher than BBC, ITV and Five's current packages though. They do tinker with it for various programmes or series, and I think this has helped (I'm liking the trail for an episode of ER on More4 which has a heavy drugs theme, and instead of the normal green blocks turning into the logo, it starts with psycadelic colours).

Going completely off-topic but anyone else find it really annoying they put "Search online for More4" on their end-caps rather than a simple "channel4.com/more4"?
I just hope they don't backtrack and put Jon Snow behind a desk. Kirsty Young may have been the first to perch, but Jon Snow and C4 News were (I think) the first to use a videowall, and it's worked very well for them over the last 10 years. It's actually difficult to know where to start with revamping C4 News - with the BBC, ITV, Five and Sky it's pretty easy to pick out areas which need improving, but I'm struggling with C4.

Same here. I think Channel 4 News is a very well produced programme. I'm a bit worried about them modernising the programme - what exactly does that mean? I think it is fine in its current form - it retains some traditional elements (e.g. serious journalism, tough interviews etc.) but mixes it with elements I would already consider to be modern, like the videowall, some standing presentation, interesting camera shots and angles. I hope they don't end up cheapening the programme in an effort to make it more hip and trendy.
The article says that the music will be unaffected. I hope this means that they will remix the current theme, rather than keep the current version. I've never really been a fan of the current mix. I think the FXs are a bit too much and it doesn't have the simplicity and authority of the older 1995/1999 themes.
