Isn't Jon Snow nearing retirement age now?
When he eventually retires, I would like to see ITV News' Mark Austin be the Channel 4 News anchor. He can have the same newscasting mannerisms as Jon. Mark, to my mind, seems more Channel 4 than ITV.
Krishnan Guru-Murthy does not seem to have the gravitas to be the main anchor.
If Mark ever left, it would mean an empty seat on News At Ten: I nominate ITN persuading John Suchet to be Mark Austin's replacement. Or failing that, Alastair Stewart. And I know it is up to Alastair or John's preference - but I, like hundreds or maybe thousands, of people will agree [excluding this website] would like to see this happen.
Jon Snow is like 60/early 60s I think, not much older than the likes of Paxo.
It's interesting you say that about Mark Austin - I kind of agree with you, he's sort of old school ITN, similar to Alex Thomson in a way - both covered a lot of wars etc and then been senior/chief correspondant. Two of the best reporters IMO. I've never really seen Mark Austin really interrogate someone in a proper live interview of the length which is kind of a staple of Channel 4 News... so I don't know how he'd be at that. He is and excellent on location presenter/foreign correspondant though.
I think Krishnan would probably get the job, though I prefer Alex personally. But I guess that would mean Alex could keep his dual correspondant/presenter role. I reckon they'll keen it 'in house' though!
There's no way in the World Mark Austin or Alastair Stewart would be asked to do it, thank God. C4N will be looking for something a bit different. Krishnan has gravitas but not the interviewing skills... he mistakes rude interuptions for classy interjections. A high profile woman would be good... Sarah Smith perhaps? Kirsty Walk?
I think Alex Thompson should get the lead role if and when Jon Snow retires. Krishnan seems to be Jon's number two, but I agree with others that he lacks the authority to be the permanent main presenter. I think Alex has a good on-screen presence and his interviewing skills are excellent, too.
As for a woman in the lead role, I'd like to see Samira Ahmed given a shot, though that's probably unlikely as she is relatively inexperienced - when compared to the likes of Jon and Alex, at least. However, she has more gravitas than many of the female BBC and ITV newsreaders, so who knows?
I like Krishnan...but do think he suits the more relaxed Noon show better. And would be awesome, I've no doubt, doing a C4 style breakfast buletin!
Hows about a poach of Emily Maitliss tho, when the time comes...?! But lets be honest...Jon Snow will do a Jon Humprys...and probably go on for quite a bit after the 'official' retirement age!

Nah, I don't understand what people see in Emily Maitliss. I certainly wouldn't put her in the outstanding bracket. She's not bad, but she's not brilliant either - she always sounds so bored when reading the news.
I hope Jon carries on a while yet - he's still got what it takes and, let's face it: he IS Channel 4 News!
Quite a funny ending to Channel 4 News tonight. After talking about poems, Krishnan decided to read the main news headline as a poem. Adds a bit of humour.
It's great what C4 News can get away with, and to a lesser extent Newsnight too. They may be the high brow bulletins, but when appropriate they can have a bit of fun with it too - something I doubt the main BBC1/ITV1 bulletins wouldn't be able to do.
