Edit: The way the C4 website claims Frei "will lead coverage of the Americas" and "will also join the presenting team" makes me think he might only have the Washington post for the run up and subsequent coverage of the 2012 Presidential race - certainly increasing the quality of C4's presidential race coverage and weakening the BBC's. Is there reason to think Jon Snow might step down some time in 2012 or 2013?

Well when the hunt for a new presenter was first announced it was rumoured to be connected to Jon Snows retirement.

Has Cathy Newman presented any bulletin in any capacity before?

Apparently Channel 4 News censored all of the names on its credits this evening.

According to the Channel 4 News Editor (@oliverjamesking) on Twitter, Channel 4 News has been given legal clearance to name the footballer at the centre of the injunction, as opposed to reporting that the MP has done so.

I don't see why they would want to. The injunction story can be reported without naming names and has been for the past few days already. The new news today is that an MP has named names. It's the man sleeps with woman story that needs the names, a story that Channel 4 news should be above anyway.

Of course the story needs the name attached - and it has long gone beyond being about a football sleeping with someone who isn't his wife - it's about whether attempts to make such injunctions for such frivilous acts really warrant the attentions of the High Court and whether it's right or fair that one person can basically sue the entire nation and people can be bought to court for breaking an injunction when the details of that injunction and what constitutes breaking it cannot be revealed due to the injunction itself.

I've never been of the opinion that knowing details of celebrities sex lives - whether extra marital or not - is in the public interest, but it clearly isn't in the public interest for such matters to swallow up the time of the highest courts in the land - and due to the actions Giggs has taken, it is now definately in the public interest to name and shame him for his actions of the last few weeks, actions which won't be forgotten - unlike the affair which started it all.

The C4 News team to begin presenting Dispatches and Unreported World. Not sure that's a good move myself - the C4 strands have always been about relatively unknown reporters filming stories they themselves are passionate about, and Jon Snow presenting "Landlords from Hell" doesn't really add to his credentials.
