Think about it though - did Jon Snow or Krishnan Guru-Murphy start out big and well known, and are they the most well known newsreaders?

With a show like Channel 4 News, it's not all about being high-profile , it's more about the actual journalistic and presenting skills that are needed.

Channel 4 News to hire new presenter

Third high-profile anchor wanted to present show when Jon Snow and Krishnan Guru-Murthy are away

The regular Channel 4 News team of Jon Snow and Krishnan Guru-Murthy will be joined by a new face next year as the programme hires its first new regular presenter for 12 years.

Producers want a third high-profile figure to present the show when Snow or Guru-Murthy is away. The move is likely to prompt speculation that the programme is preparing for the succession process when Snow, now 63, eventually retires.

If they want a high profile presenter then BBC World is not the place to find it as a lot of people (TV Forumers aside) would have not have a clue who they were. I think Ben Brown and Colin Brazier.

It's probably challenging to find a true "high-profile" presenter who would be happy to merely be third in the pecking order at Channel 4 News.

I think Ben Brown and Colin Brazier could very well end up being the lead presenters for the BBC and Sky respectively in a few years, so I'd be surprised if they jumped ship. Maybe someone like Tim Willcox could be on their radar. Who knows.

That refers to them being high-profile on the programme. In other words at the same level as Jon and Krishnan.

You would have expected Julie Etchingham to lead Sky within a decade or so, and the same for Natasha Kaplinsky at the BBC. Careers in broadcasting do go off course sometimes.

Could imagine Emily Maitliss being considered - relatively high profile I'd say, and would fit in well.

Good suggestion!

What about Chris Rogers? Or Ellie Crisell? Either of those two would be good and would be tremendous assets to Channel 4

Are you mad?

I'd be very tempted to try and dip into the Newsnight pool of talent for the new presenter. I think Kirsty Wark would fit in perfectly, as would Gavin Esler and Paxo himself. Whether they would make such a move is an entirely different question altogether.

Of course they may not go for a presenter at all.

Well they're not going to go for a bleeding saucepan.

No but it would be more than possible for, say, a political editor or an established correspondent to be picked over an established presenter.
