It struck me a little as the inverse of this bit from The Day Today.

Channel 4 News to hire new presenter

Third high-profile anchor wanted to present show when Jon Snow and Krishnan Guru-Murthy are away

The regular Channel 4 News team of Jon Snow and Krishnan Guru-Murthy will be joined by a new face next year as the programme hires its first new regular presenter for 12 years.

Producers want a third high-profile figure to present the show when Snow or Guru-Murthy is away. The move is likely to prompt speculation that the programme is preparing for the succession process when Snow, now 63, eventually retires.

Are Samira Ahmed and Alex Thomson not qualified enough for the job? And heavyweight enough?

It would appear not. If this is succession planning and with the inevitable BBC consolidation to come as the Licence fee settlement is digested, I'm wondering whether one of the NC anchors might be tempted.

Jon Sopel maybe.

I'd hope not Jon, as I think he'd be completely wasted at Channel 4 News if I'm honest. Jon gets a lot of time presenting extensive political coverage at the BBC, alongside his work on The Politics Show and occasional editions of Newsnight or network bulletins.

Then again I can imagine Matthew Amroliwala fitting in quite nicely to Channel 4 News. Or someone from Sky, perhaps? Names like Colin Brazier spring to mind.

Chris Roberts would be an excellent choice.

I think we're talking more in the league of Jeremy Thompson.

Matt Barbet if sky lose the contract may be looking for work. He's more or less despite not having the title been Main newscaster on five for the last few years.

Matt's hardly high profile.

Well he is Known and has done BBC Breakfast in the past , but to be honest I don't find anyone very high profile would settle for third string at Channel 4.

I don't think Matt Barbet has enough 'hard' news experience for Channel 4. While he has covered significant events, often on location, he doesn't have much interviewing experience, at least in recent years, does he? Something I would have thought Chhanel 4 would want from a presenter
