ITN endcap ditched (July 2005)

Quite an amusing look ( Confused ) on Jon Snow's face tonight at the end of C4N after he asked a correspondent a question and cut him off immediately afterwards. Anyone who saw it will know what I mean.

More interesting though was the endcap, which now just says Channel 4 News. Anyone know why the ITN name has now completely disappeared from the programme? This is probably now the only programme on Channel 4 without a production company's name stamped on the end of it.

I noticed that Alex Thompson was introduced on NBC Today as an ITN reporter last week (I know this doesn't really mean anything but it contrasts with the loss of the endcap). Why has Channel 4 disassociated itself from ITN? It's other major production has deteriorated severely in recent times but under the ITV name. Granted it is only a minor thing on-screen but there must be a bigger reason for it.

Probably just a one-off, just occassionally they don't/can't bring the slide up. It was there on Monday as far as I can remember, and was certainly used after each of the special updates last Thursday (one could argue that you wouldn't expect to see an endcap after such a short update.)

Well yeah, maybe I'm reading too much in to this.

Reason I posted though was that the there was an endcap of sorts that said Channel 4 News.

Instead of these closing titles:

thetvroom.com

there was a set with images and credits side by side, which finished saying Channel 4 News. If I'm being a complete idiot please let me know, but I can't believe I haven't seen the end of a weekday C4N since the relaunch.

Could have been an emergency slide - as the normal C4 end slide animates doesn't it (the C4 logo bit of it) ? Could be the animation failed or wasn't available?

Those Closing titles are only used for the 30 minute programmes. The longer programmes use the images/credits, usually followed by an animated website promotion slide, then the endcap.

Doesn't matter. But as has been said, pieces of the close often get missed out - it just depends how many seconds are left before the weather report.

No ITN endcap again tonight, so it looks like it might be a more permanent change.

I'll second that about Sky.

Does anyone else think that the Channel 4 News sig music is just flippin fantastic and ought never be changed, ever? Cause I do Very Happy

It's such a well composed piece, yet as fresh as the day it was launched.
I particularly like the way it builds in that repetitive roll at the very start, and then bursts out into the main body of the piece.
Also the 'it's half past seven, the main headlines again' music is great, very newsy and attention-grabbing with that deep rumbling etc.

But even better than that is the closing music, with it kicking in at a low level under Jon's closing remarks, building the anticipation to the point where Jon himself tends to get a bit excited Smile. and then it explodes again with the cut to a refreshingly long lingering wide of the studio, and then the wipe to graphics.
A classic ploy but it works so well.

The production values of Four News overall are fantastic, even if some of the tracking shots are a bit dodgy at times. And the new look is lovely and fresh.

Does anyone know how old the (basic) sig music is?

Introduced about half-way into 1982 I believe, the original theme being entirely forgetable.
