This thread is intended for general discussion for everything related to channel 4 news.

To start with, does anyone think, that with the lunchtime news now two years old, that Channel 4 should run a breakfast news programme? I mean hard news, since BBC breakfast and GMTV are hardly great bastions of journalism. I remember the business programme they used to run years ago, but does a market exist for serious news at breakfast time?

i happen to think Breakfast and GMTV are quite good 'bastions' of journalism, actually. Channel 4 News wouldn't stand a chance, and I doubt that many people would want 'hard news' when they wake up first thing in the morning.

The 'Today' programme on Radio 4 seems to be quite popular for those wanting 'hard news' in the morning.

I don't see why it matters if its 'hard news' in the morning. Its a news programme, so therefore it is going to bring us the news - good or bad. The problem nowadays is that people do not watch enough news, hence apathy to current affairs. I personally, wouldn't touch GMTV with barge pole, buts thats just my opinion. I think a Channel 4 News at breakfast, like during the war in Iraq, would do well. I would certainly watch it over Breakfast etc.

S4C is a specific channel for Welsh speaking audiences, hence the Welsh language, there is an English subtitling service available during Newyydion (News) Programme but the channel is primarly designed for a Welsh speaking audience.
If your looking for Welsh news spoken in English I suggest Wales Today on BBC 1 Wales, or 2W News and Sport on BBC 2W.

Aaaaaarrrrrghhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Generic thread moan over!)

Re: S4C - they do screen C4 News at Noon - though I don't understand why as really they could do with the extra 30 minutes to squeeze in C4 programming.

Don't want to see a C4 News breakfast show. C4 is supposed to offer an alternative - something The Big Breakfast definitely did and so does the current morning comedy/entertainment line up.

A channel 4 news breakfast show could last an hour or half an hour, still leaving time for alternative programming.

Im in two minds over this, While I agree Channel 4's News output should be increased there also the "Morning" factor to consider. Myself it depends heavily in what mood I'm feeling so usually Terry on 2 but sometimes I would have liked a serious breakfast programme, indeed I used to quite admire and watch Breakfast...
Channel 4 usually manage to offer something different and diverse so with the two main ones going showbizzy then maybe The News At Dawn might not be such a far fetched idea...

Has Ch4 news gone widescreen as Im watching it now on a 15" portable and the faces are stretched ridiculously and the astons have half of their text missing ie ignoring safe areas. Or, have they just done an ITV news and decided to broadcast in 14:9 on digital?
