Spot on that's my recollection at least that was their excuse the Channel 4 Daily had it's strengths but was a bit of a mishmash of content from different production companies and the format didn't really work.
I have a soft spot for the Channel Four Daily. All the criticisms of it are valid, but it was an attempt to do something a bit different, and I loved the design and music of some of the segments.
I seem to remember reading part of the reason the Channel 4 Daily was axed was because Channel 4 were about to start selling their own advertising and they felt it wouldn't be able to pay for itself, so they replaced it with something more populist. I could be wrong though!
And on that note, the first ever Channel 4-sold ad break (and last ITV regional-sold one for that matter) was during a special new year edition of the Big Breakfast- and they actually made a point of it, putting out a spoof ad break, consisting of spoof badly made 70s cinema adverts, followed by Chris and Gaby acting concerned for the channel's future. Starts at around 4:10 into this video:
Great find - didn't know they did that. I think I'd be all in favour of the Channel 4 Daily returning if it meant we got The Big Breakfast three years later.

No, both have had their time in my opinion. This isn't a weekly, one off series like TFI Friday...it would be every day and the nostalgia would soon wear off. I'm not even sure if there is room for another Breakfast programme with Sky in the mix too these days.

There's always a role for quality information or entertainment the Big Breakfast COULD come back with say a more newsy feel.

No it couldn't, because The Big Breakfast wasn't really about news at all. Sure it had the headlines but that wasn't what they were going for.

Who says u can't have Big Breakfast News LOL with celebrity tabloid News from da House...or a more upmarket show as long as the Channel provides an alternative.

I didn't realise Ali G had such an interest in pres.
Could Channel 4 even get the ad revenue to be able to afford to do the Big Breakfast now, or for that matter any live television at that time of day. I cant imagine they'd get more than a few hundred thousand viewers, and most (if not all) of those will be from BBC and ITV.

That is exactly what C4 execs thought in 2002 when they replaced the show with RI:SE. We all know how well that worked out.
