[ITV West area (isn't it a one-transmitter region?), so expansion into the Ridge Hill area might help them find something worthwhile to report.

It is quite possible to have a news rich region on one transmitter. The North West/Granadaland is all broadcast from Winter Hill (and it's relays).

Unless you know the transmitter logistics you would think having separate Merseyside/Lancashire/Gtr Manchester roundups would be beneficial but logistically not very easy!

I always wondered why Granada never had sub regions with a seperate service for Liverpool to Manchester for example. Also Wales would benefit as Granada claim a lot of North Wales is their territory anyway, and Liverpool/Manchester is nearer to places like Wrexham and Llandudno than Cardiff!

All regions were included in the review of our flagships and bulletins, however no changes to the structure of the news schedule or regional boundaries are planned for Border, Granada, ITV Wales, ITV London or Westcountry.

Funny then how Berwick-on-Tweed is being considered for a move from the Border region into the Tyne Tees region - which it was in originally - as a result of the switchover to digital TV in the Border region in 2008. Also remember a number of the South Lakes relays carried Granada at one time and were switched to Border in 1982. If anything, I can see Border's territory being split between Granada and STV before long.

Moving Berwick into Tyne Tees would make sense - there's never anything on Lookaround from that far across the region anyway.

As for the South Lakes transmitters, if our experience of receiving the BBC's North West Tonight is anything to go by, putting them back in Granadaland would be like saying bye-bye to any local news from this neck of the woods - couldn't tell you the last time Gordon Burns uttered anything about Cumbria... Currently, are bulletins on Tyne Tees split or pan-regional?

currently the GMTV, mid-morning and weekend bulletins on TTTV are pan regional. The lunchtime and late bulletins are split north and south. The late bulletin was only split when they moved to Television House, previously it was pan regional but from the teesside studio.

Late Bulletin is now pan regional again.

Tyne-Tees have been operating completely seperate bulletins for the north and south of the region since 1995. That's one hell of a trial period!

Not so. The trial period refers to the split 6pm programme, which has only been completely split in recent times when Mike Neville has been absent, either on summer hols (eg in 2004) or for the past year or so since he has been unwell.

Cumbria is editorially in BBC North East - so the version of Look North from Newcastle should cover your area. At one time it was part of BBC North West's patch but it reverted to NE in 1997 if I remember correctly.

I'm sure if it was their job to do so NWT would cover the area

And it was 1993 when the full split-regional service started (and indeed TTTV has had 2.5 hours/week of split-regional news since the mid-1980s, with much the same configuration as the Mike Neville days, only with the daytime bulletins recorded from Newcastle for the Bilsdale transmitter and main section from the old Middlesbrough studio).

Split-regional broadcasts only stopped because the presence of Mike Neville was such a big draw that TTTV reorganised things so that he would appear in the south of the region. Without him it makes sense to revert to the original idea. StuartPlymouth is right in principle to point out that this isn't a "new" service or idea at all.

Ironic that ITV should be boasting about this alleged service improvement when they effectively closed the Billingham studios quietly and moved their functions to Gateshead -- TT is now effectively in the same position as Central in having a large sub-region not having a studio in its area any more.

It is NWT's job to cover the south of Cumbria, the transmitters at Lancaster, Kendal, Windermere, and Coniston are all relays of Winter Hill for BBC 1 and 2.
