Does anyone think the studio would look so much better with the London Tonight seats?

Yes - it is ironic that the BBC is increasing the number of regional operations - and moving from co-siting their operations (Oxford/Southampton, Leeds/Hull) to split siting to base the programme presentation and production in the area they are broadcasting to...

So, OT, will ITV quietly run down the regional programmes on a region-by-region basis (starting with Border in a couple of years) or will they wait until the whole lot is digital before getting rid of the regional commitment?

Having seen the London Tonight seats yes.
Wonder why Central had bigger seats in the first place? Can't believe what they have done to them.
Every bulletin except Central Tonight had the old backdrops today... Hope it was a mistake and back to the bullring...
I really like the view they are using on Central Tonight now, I like the way it pans towards the sky, gives it a good feel rather than just a normal recorded view.

I think this is speculation - and not a decision ITV has yet taken in public.

As far as I'm aware, there ARE requirments on ITV to provide regional news when the switchover to digital happens. To my knowledge, they MUST provide regional news on digital but will have NO regional programming requirements at all. Therefore, political programmes and occasional 'the way we were' shows, etc will vanish.

And ironically people will still refer to the station as "Yorkshire" or "Central" or "ATV" or "Southern" or "Thames". Not ITV.[/quote]
To be fair that isn't strictly true. It is inevitable that the regional station names will suffer a continued decline in awareness. As time passes an increasing number of people will only have known the ITV1 brand and will know no different.

Exactly, Nelad.
Absolutely nobody that I know ever calls it "Central" anymore, they all say "ITV". It seems to be the addition of the "1" to the name that's having more of a problem in catching-on with the masses...
Maybe that was the thinking behind this?

Central are using all the old backdrops now. I really liked the bullring one. This doesn't make sense.
If you take a look at these:

It just shows how the set has gone downhill from launch. Compare the lighting on the wall, the seats and layout.

Just shows that ITV can't keep good sets for long
