At least Central South got an extra two years or so compared to Central East's move. It was sad that there were cuts to ITV Regional News services throughout the Country but considering the East Midlands is/was a Government Region (and every English Region has at least one live programme) the move to Birmingham shouldn't have happened in my opinion. Then there were cuts to the actual News itself...I say all this as a West Midlander. I'm expecting people are going to say the TV Regions aren't the same as Government Regions but to some degree they are (just better served in some areas than others due to Transmitter etc issues...for example Granada/Border cover much of the North West).

As for the future of Regional News, who knows but knowing modern ITV's chequered history of PSB... I'd personally make/let both the BBC/ITV cut their Regional News service to the Home Nations/English Regions IF there was a way of making the Local channels pay (such as having a National-Local channel as originally proposed by Jeremy Hunt or Local News on Channel 5 or something else). I believe we require International/National News for items that effect or interest us ALL, Regional News for items not quite important enough for the National News but interest a certain Region and Local News for truly localised coverage. The trouble people won't watch a Channel that is poorly made or boring hence why you need a National-Local set up to be successful in my opinion.
