I didn't think there was enough room in Birmingham for another studio.

Tiny though the ITV Central building in Birmingham is, since the formation of ITVplc (and the inevitable "downsizing" that comes with such consolidation), they're not even using all of that tiny building!

I think the whole second floor (the building only has three storeys) of "Central Court" is empty and available for rent (there's a huge "To Let" sign by the main gates). So, they actually do have room to spare!

So, theroetically, they could convert one room into yet another tiny studio (and possibly re-shuffle other things, such as newsroom, to different rooms, if necessary), and house all three CN's at Brum.
Am sure they would love to do that but i wonder how much it would cost...

Indeed, and presumably if they've budgeted to let out the second floor there won't be any plans for them to use it.

I'm fairly sure that the 2nd floor was emptied and put up for rent pretty much as soon as ITVplc was formed (Feb 2004) - or maybe even in the run-up to the merger, in late 2003.

Having walked past the building on a number of occasions between Feb 2004 and now, I have yet to see any evidence of any organisation actually renting the avaiable space. They might as well give up even trying to attract a tennant.

Is ITV News meant to be staying blue?
I'm under the impresion the blue walls are snazzy light things so could they just change the entire set with flick of a switch?

Do we know for certain that ITV owns the building, or is it just renting space there, as is common with many studios these days? If so, moving out of one floor is going to save money whether anyone else moves in or not - it's only the landlord's problem.

I thought everyone might be interested to know that the old Central South set is now at Glostershire University as part of their Broadcast Journalism set up. Apparently the soft set is going down there as well once the new set is introduced.

They've just previewed the new green generic set and the new 'ITV Central News' logo. In use from Monday coinciding with the new look ITV.

Brilliant. I suppose it wont be hard for Central East and West to go green, they only have to reset the lights and wait a few weeks, then green appears from no where. Central West set looks cr*p now, for some reason the screen behind looks really small compared to the huge chairs, did not look like that last September.

If you look on the Central News East thread you'll see there's another twist to the story. East are currently, it seems, in the Central corridor or newsroom! They have a dreadful background which they seem to be trying to disguise as their normal set. Very odd.

Is green a good news colour then ?
