Have just checked out the 3rd Jan editions of CNsouth online. They're
still
in the temporary set!
It really does look like they'll not be unveiling the new set until the Jan 16th changeover. Which begs the question, why did they bother decamping a few weeks ago?
They could have stayed on the full previous set until the end of 2005, and not bothered constructing/piloting the new set until, say, this week.
This means that CNsouth will be the only ITVplc to have never had the "proper" generic set (as opposed to the "repainted" version of the final pre-generic era set) during the first incarnation of the generic era!
So, we will never get to see CNsouth's generic set lit/dressed in the current style.

Did they not do a Scotland Today type situation revamp and unveil today?

Tuesday 3rd Jan is the first "normal weekday" of 2006 in England - not a Bank Holiday, as in Scotland. So, if CNsouth were going to launch the new set on-air this week, Wednes 4th would seem a very random choice of day.

Yes but what would seem even more random is moving into a temp. set for the good part of a month.

Fair point. I wonder what they're up to?
It wouldn't suprise me if CNsouth's studio were moved to Birmingham!

I didn't think there was enough room in Birmingham for another studio.

Tiny though the ITV Central building in Birmingham is, since the formation of ITVplc (and the inevitable "downsizing" that comes with such consolidation), they're not even using all of that tiny building!
I think the whole second floor (the building only has three storeys) of "Central Court" is empty and available for rent (there's a huge "To Let" sign by the main gates). So, they actually do have room to spare!
So, theroetically, they could convert one room into yet another tiny studio (and possibly re-shuffle other things, such as newsroom, to different rooms, if necessary), and house all three CN's at Brum.
EDIT: Obviously, for the sake of all South Midlander viewers, I hope they get to keep an Abingdon/Oxford based programme for many a year. But I don't think a future move to Brum is as impossible as you might want to think.
