What time is UK Today on the ITV News Channel?
If it's after 3pm, then I presume that the 3pm regional bulletins are the source material.
Therefore, one reason (not necessarily the only reason) might be because the CSO studio provides a more prominent mention of "Central News" on UK Today. (The virtual side plasma is far bigger than the real side plasma in the real studio. And the the words "Central News" aren't on screen at all for the main front shot with the webcam "window" behind, whereas for the main front shot in the CSO studio, there is a Central News logo in the top left)

It's at approx 3.20pm. UK Today is live, but obviously uses the same regional presenters in the same studios as the 3pm bulletins.
Central News West will only appear on the afternoon UK Today a couple of times a week, so it would be a flimsy explanation for the use of the CSO.

Why dont Central change the CSO to the live view of Birmingham? At least it will look like the main studio. Also - as London has a live image stream from the LNN Studios - will Central East have the same too? I bet it costs a lot, especially as it is used all day, but I believe the Central West camera is on their own roof?
