I adored the classic theme, but I quite like this, actually. Scott Pelley's broadcast is quite dreary, this gives it a bit more energy. If only they updated the set, it's coming on 10 years old at this point, although the newsroom modifications have brightened it up a bit.

Likewise - I was expecting to be disgusted, but I actually think that's a really good theme. The titles are a bit manic, though.

The basic layout of the set is actually 20 years old. But I think it's still my favourite set out of all the networks - NBC and ABC are both basically just desks in front of big screens.

The theme is nice, although the visuals of the title sequence feel a bit clichéd - like a rejected version of the opening for Aaron Sorkin's "The Newsroom".

I actually really like the visuals. Clean, bold and more modern than previous incarnations. It fits in a lot more with CBSN. As for the theme tune - love it!

According to TV Newser, there are more changes on the way over the coming months, including 'new camera shots and backdrops in the studio':

Sure this is CBSN thread but since there are discussions of CBS News in here I'd figure I'd post this. CBS Evening News redid their opening akin to the eye opener on CBS This Morning and a new theme song. The song is good but I don't think it fits the serious journalism outlet that CBS likes to present themselves as.

Here's a segment that aired on the production and history of their theme:

And the actual opening:

I'm still not sure how I like retiring a theme that has been in use for almost 40 years.

You are allowed to open a new thread you know.

As for this - agree with the concensus that the theme is inoffensive enough but the visuals are just quite underwhelming - rather dated IMO.

Always a little leery starting a thread over here. Some users like to jump down each others throats.

I wish they would have left the music alone and changed the studio/newsroom. All their sets from New York to D.C. to London need a refresh at a minimum. I watched a report from their Sr. Foreign Correspondent Mark Phillips in London Monday night and they are still using that old tired look of the reporter seated in front of or behind the control room with CBS NEWS LONDON above and in-between the reporter's head. Looks like its straight out of 1997.

I'm still unsure about the titles, as mentioned earlier on in the thread, they remind me of The Newsroom. The music's very nice though.

I'm pretty sure ABC and NBC are still like that. I know NBC's is similar but has been updated within the past five years, although I do believe that a decent portion of their staff are in the open plan office with ITV News (based on talent pictures producers occasionally post).

I do wonder why Comcast, NBC News, CNBC, NBC Sports and the international Units of Universal Studios cannot be collocated? I imagine there's likely a lack of space for having CNBC move into Grays Inn Road.

To be honest, I don't where the bureaus for CBS and ABC are located.

ABC is in Hammersmith, in the same building as Disney's London HQ (above the Broadway Shopping Centre). Although, a couple of years ago when I was in the BBC's Broadcasting House, I saw a desk in the newsroom set aside for 'ABC News London bureau chief' - not sure why.

I think CBS News is in Chiswick.

Both locations presumably chosen due to easy access to Heathrow and main roads in and out of London.
