Saturday output seems to consist mostly of items from the Saturday edition of CBS This Morning. I've seen one piece of Breaking News presented from a darkened newsroom - they could at least have turned on the lights.

I'm guessing that tomorrow we'll get lots of stuff from Sunday Morning and Face The Nation - which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Especially given Face The Nation is celebrating 60 years on television, so that and Sunday Morning content as well as 60 Minutes will have some great content for CBSN

Looks like I predicted correctly. Today's output seems to be those two programmes alternating, pretty much in their entirety. Not even any CBS Radio News headlines on the hour like yesterday.

I think this was a fantastic way for CBS news to monetize their top-notch content without a huge output of funds to build a fancy set or hire loads of anchors and such. Utilize what you already have. Whilst I'm not hughly impressed with all of the "decorative" elements of the newsroom set, i like the "down and dirty" feel of it. I'd like to see how it performs during a big breaking story. I wonder if they will simply take the feed from their affiliate (if its a US story)? Currently CBS has a live video feed that shifts throughout the day and night with any breaking video. http://www.cbsnews.com/liveFeed/widget.shtml It has no hosts or presenters at all, but I find it a great resource for unedited live footage from all over the world. If there is no video of importance is simply rotates between various live "beauty" shots and the NYSE big board, etc. Surprised they havent rebranded it and pulled into their CBSN UI. Good effort I say.

Have to say, I love the newsroom set! Messy but stylish. It feels very pitched at 30 somethings. Reminds me of MSNBC in its early days.

Its brilliant what CBSN is doing. To keep the headlines fresh overnight they utilize the CBS RADIO Network to update the headlines. Brilliant. They simply have a live camera set up in the Radio Studios and just take the headlines which is fed live every hour and updated on the half 24 hours a day to hundreds of CBS Radio stations across the USA. Smart.

Its a fantastic use of the networks robust radio products plus its own 24 hr all news radio stations across the US and its tv affiliate network. Simple cost effective and fresh content update across the night. Smart and still cheap. Possible if its successful CBS will clean up its presentation. But they arent really know for their presentation skills, though the content is always top-notch.

It's interesting how well you can do Radio on the TV. NRK broadcast their main 1800 Radio Bulletin on TV. http://tv.nrk.no/serie/dagsnytt-atten-tv Works remarkably well and gets a decent audience I believe.

It'll be interesting to see whether they stick with the 9am ET start time for live programming as the channel evolves.

I guess it depends on whether or not they're interested in international viewers. If they are, then 2pm GMT/3pm CET is a bit too late a start. But, then again, the CBS News iPhone/iPad/Android apps aren't even currently available in the UK, so I suspect this isn't on their agenda just yet.

Also... Not that this is really an issue, but I'm not sure how much of the 'live' programming is genuinely live, even in the first hour. I'm just watching the first live segment of the day and, on the screens in the background, you can clearly see CBS This Morning, which has already finished on the east coast. They could have the CT or MT feed on, I suppose - but I'm guessing it's most likely pre-recorded.

I would hazard a guess. That a good chunk is pre-recorded and jukeboxed similar to NY1 and the old CNN Headline News. Seems like a cost effective option.

I'd agree on both counts.

Very occasionally there's a bit of a messy jump cut between two segments at the anchor desk - but that's the sort of thing they should be able to iron out quite easily by playing an ad or a sting.

Really good, slick coverage of the Philae probe comet landing right now. They're definitely a credible source for breaking news.
