The ratings for her initial broadcast Tuesday were 86 percent above what CBS averaged on the same day last year, according to a preliminary measurement of the nation's 55 biggest markets by Nielsen Media Research.

CBS had a 9.1 rating and 17 share in those markets, compared to the 5.7 rating and 11 share for ABC's "World News" and 5.3 rating and 10 share for NBC's "Nightly News," Nielsen said.

The new theme is excellent - a more upbeat, modern rendering of the classic original. Are they keeping the Cronkite v/o?

If you watched the 7th Sept CBS Evening News, you will notice that the opening zoom in shot of Katie wasnt quite stable. Laughing

Interesting. Couric does a good job, and I do like the presentation, but unfortunately none of the current US anchors come close to Jennings or Brokaw, however drunk the latter sounded on-screen...

EDIT: hold on a minute, Katie's nearly 50?!? Wow.

I'm not totally sure because I can't find the listings for yesterday, but it could be that Saturday's CBS Evening News was preempted for U.S. Open Tennis (preemption due to sport events happens quite often on all the 'Big 3' networks on weekends).

I can't comment on the content of the programme, as I haven't seen it, but presentationally this just looks and sounds beautiful. I'm surprised that discussion about it here has died down, as it is a perfect example of traditional American news presentation getting it right. It really reopens the whole European vs. American pres argument. I usually think that American news looks tacky and contrived compared to European news. But this has completely changed my mind.

Contrast this:

with the BBC's room of videowalls and ITV's spaceship. Which looks more impressive?

Yeahs, I find it more 'proper' compared to all those fancy and loud graphics and presentation styles on networks like CNN's. Maybe its just a proper programme that theres nothing to discuss about! Laughing Everything looks so beautiful in it I guess.

Well, I think both the BBC and ITV win it hands down - when they use their studio well.

That caption just looks like CBS couldn't decide what colour to go for, so threw them all in!

Anyone else think that the music sounds like something out of Star Trek?

(You could combine the ITV Set with the CBS Titles and give the newsreader goblin ears. Add the additional desks from Sky and we'd have Star Trek!)

Nice job digging up an old thread Rolling Eyes .

Anyways, There have been set tweaks. There is now a frosted glss map of the world in the interview area. I don't know why you thinki the music is bad. I quite like it. Katie Couric is horrible though!
