The new show will apparently be called 'CBS This Morning'.

Anyone know how long 'Up to the Minute' has had a 'London Comment' feature? When browsing the CBS News site, I was surprised to see the BBC's Jon Sopel is a regular commentator.

Since 1998, House!

Ahh, interesting. Thanks!

Well the industry's pretty sceptical already - it'll be interesting to see if this takes off. It sounds like it will be far newsier and - dare I say it - smarter. Though 'Evening News' ratings have been significantly up since Scott Pelley took over - and it wouldn't be hard to improve The Early Show's ratings - I somehow can't imagine this will compete with 'Today' or ABC's resurgent 'Good Morning America'.

Russ Mitchell leaving CBS for an NBC affiliate. Seems like quite a demotion. So that's Katie Couric, Harry Smith and Russ Mitchell leaving in the space of six months. They seem determined to give CBS News a completely new image, even down to anchors. Wonder who will be the main substitute for Scott Pelley now?

Jeff Glor is remaining with the new version of The Early Show, he's been a regular fill-in in the past. Also last time I was there I seem to remember Erica Hill sitting in too...

True - and Erica's sticking as a main anchor on CBS This Morning, isn't she? Plus, I suppose there's whoever replaces Russ.

Is there any word on what will happen to the Saturday edition of The Early Show? Currently presented by Russ Mitchell and Betty Nguyen, I think....

I thought it was Russ and Rebecca Jarvis, with Betty Nguyen at the news desk? I don't know for sure, as I don't watch it. It'll be interesting to see if it becomes the Saturday edition of CBS This Morning, if it becomes a stand alone programme (like 'Sunday Morning') or if it's axed altogether.

Bob Scheiffer probably - he is currently one of the main subsititutes anyway. Don't forget they also have Norah O'Donnell now as well who has filled in on some evening news's

According to wikipedia (so may not be accurate) Betty Nguyen co-anchors once a month, otherwise she is the news anchor

Why Bob Scheiffer gave up that gig I have no idea, it suits him perfectly. So I'm guessing Jeff Glor will replace Russ on the Sunday edition of the Evening News?

They could go for someone not very obvious, as they did with Scott Pelley on the weekday evening news (had no previous anchoring experience at all IIRC). And FWIW wikipedia has Betty Nguyen and correspondent Anthony Mason as current weekend fill-ins, so there's two more names to consider

Russ replaced Jeff on Saturdays when the former moved to The Early Show - could be Jeff returns to the Evening News at weekends. Interesting they've had Nora on the Evening News. I assume she's in line to replace Bob if he decides to retire or leave at some point at Face the Nation. At 74, it wouldn't be unfair for them to be looking to the future.

Didn't know about Nguyen, but I know Mason has filled in. He seems to fit with the type of onscreen personality they're going for these days.
