As an aside; The Early Show has changed its music to match that of the CBS Evening News, the music was written by Liz Myers and performed at 20th Century Fox studios at the end of June, the change happened in week 3 of July. It was based upon one of the extended stings for the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather package.

As well as changing the music, the graphics also received an update (or downdate because quite honestly, they're vile!) and the astons, after 3 months of nagging from me have been aligned correctly!

Anyway; here it is:

Now there were 2 alternate versions of this music written and performed, and as is CBS News tradition, they took the worst version!

I'm not a regular viewer of the Early Show (or any of the morning shows, for that matter), but what is up with that set? Everytime I flick over to CBS, they're in that awful set with that white desk and those blank blue walls.

I'm also not a fan of that new music in that video. The old Early Show theme that was part of the Horner package was excellent in my opinion.

The set is very much like Today, only badly executed in a small space!

Music wise, based upon the original 1988 music, I'm not liking it, too lethargic and slow!

Horner's (well, Actually CBS News' in house creation) of the Early Show theme was okay, but not brilliant.

That's strange. CBS's web video gets the timing wrong.

That's because that running order was for Thursday, not Friday.

I know, but, look at the web video. In the middle of the show, web ad starts even before actual ad breaks on television

That new music on the Early Show is appalling!

Interesting. I know I've seen ABC reporters appear on the BBC before, and NBC have that deal with ITN that sees the likes of Keir Simmons and Tom Bradby infect NBC reports, but I don't recall ever seeing a Sky/CBS crossover. I wonder if it's part of something larger or just CBS not having anyone in Tripoli?

Maybe the latter.

The CBS Moneywatch graphics on the morning news are still in the 2006 Panorama Look, and the SD ones at that!

Chris Wragge headed back to WCBS to co-anchor its 6pm news, apparently. This new role's in addition to The Early Show, but suggestions in the press are that this is Chris gearing up for yet another overhaul of TES, something executives have certainly hinted is on the table (or, at least, isn't off the table).

Well I do know there are some new graphics on the way, the question is do they contract it out again (please!) or do it internally (good god no.)...

I watched CBS on Sky the other morning. It's true that CBS News always comes third in the ratings right? What I saw was an identical style of presentation that mimics every other American network newscast for the past forty years. To break the cycle of coming last, why don't they try to break the mould a bit? A younger, less avuncular presenter such as Anderson Cooper, a different, more newsy style of presentation instead of link, package, link, package would and could surely work right? Even if they still came third, at least American viewers could get something just a little bit different.

Slightly old news now, but I just discovered Marlysol Castro is out as The Early Show's meteorologist. I'm sure more on-screen changes must be on the way at TES.

Meanwhile I've been watching a lot of the CBS Evening News recently, and I have mixed reactions. The theme is pure joy, though the graphics still need fixing. Soon please, CBS.

However the big problem is I'm not a fan of Scott Pelley. He's different to Brian Williams and Diane Sawyer - I'll give him that - but his questions feel rehearsed, interaction between him and correspondents feels very forced and his voice is completely lifeless. I suspect he was a great reporter, but not a great anchor. And CBS' claim of 'the best of 60 minutes reporting every weeknight' is a joke. On the other hand, Norah O'Donnell was a very good catch. It'll be interesting to see how she compares with Jake Tapper and Chuck Todd over the coming months.

It'll be interesting to see what impact the changes make, especially given they're some of the first of the new management team.
