CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley

With the new anchor of the CBS Evening News starting tonight, this thread will be used to comment on both presentational and editorial changes to the programme.

While the graphics will remain unchanged for a while, I am assured some new ones are in the pipeline.

Further to this, I've forwarded on our complaints about the dark newsroom, apparently it is made darker as there are some special glass panels suspended between the presentation area and the newsroom itself that all face the camera square on to prevent reflection.

Slightly different opening graphics. The top stories are no longer in a box next to Scott, instead the images are full screen.

The music, on the otherhand, is completely different.

They were never in a OTS on the weekday edition, were they?

No, they weren't my mistake. However, the graphics on them have changed, transition in particular.

They've made the studio... worse?

Was that completely new music? Definitely a different format and feel already. Shame about the graphics. And the same camera shots.

I don't think it looks fantastic, but it certainly looks better than the awful flag they had.

The theme is the CBS Evening News's 1987 theme! 24 years old!


I would be peeved that the theme was changed, since I thought the Horner theme was brilliant (The long closes were stunning http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrLNqZwbBdQ&feature=related), but this just...works. It's 24 years old, but it's understanded and solid. They're obviously going for tradition here, after Couric. They need to update the graphics though, badly.

It's the 1988 Package!

It's worth noting that this music was scrapped in December 1990 and replaced with PWF's Dan Rather theme in 1991

Such a shame, I really loved the James Horner package!

Indeed. What I was hoping for was a 3D version of the CBS News logo. The 3 interlocking globes.
