Jeff Glor also presented the last iteration of "The Early Show", he was one of the two "CBS Evening News: Weekend Edition" presenters and the original overnight presenter for CBSN

He was never a main presenter of the Early Show, though he was a newsreader in the final years.

Jeff Glor is a safe choice. I still think having a woman do at least one of the three network newscasts would make sense. The idea of never naming a permanent anchor and always having a roster of people to do the show a few weeks at a time would have been interesting too.

The mistake was still getting rid of Scott too soon.

Glor and Erica Hill were the final weekday presenters of the Early Show. Glor and Hill were part of the 2010-11 team, which included Marysol Castro and WCBS-TV 's Chris Wragge. Castro and Wragge later left the show.

That may be right. Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez were the main anchors until they were booted in January 2011. Chris Wragge and Erica Hill did the Saturday edition alongside Glor reading headlines. Until Wragge was named weekday Early Show anchor, he was the evening anchor on WCBS. He quit WCBS when he got the weekday Early Show slot, but I think he may have gone back to WCBS six months later once the writing was on the wall that the Early Show was on borrowed time. So yes, I suppose Jeff Glor was the last weekday Early Show anchor, though only on an interim, unofficial basis.

Is the UK the only country where the flagship anchors (both primetime and breakfast) get away with a 3-4 day week?

I'm surprised really the US hasn't followed Australia in moving their key anchors to Sunday to Thursday rather than Monday to Friday, though I guess on CBS and FOX the Sunday evening news probably gets pre-empty quite often for NFL.

FOX doesnt have a network newscast. They only have Sunday Morning political talk programme. In the vein of Meet The Press...but creepier.

No, other countries in Asia do the same. South Korea's JTBC for example for their evening news "JTBC Newsroom" has two presenting teams: Sohn Seok-hee and Ann Na-kyung hosting Monday to Thursday and Lee Ji-eun and Kim Pil-yu hosting Friday to Sunday. Japan's NHK World for their "NHK Newsline" have 10 minute bulletin during weekends as well

The original "Fox News" service were updates provided to Fox Stations from their owned and operated stations WNYW New York, WTTG Washington DC (the inaugural Dumont and Metromedia stations, Fox's predecessor) and KTTV Los Angeles. Fox also had " The Reporters" during their first few years in operation.

According to Page Six, the reason Glor may have gotten his post is due to CBS "being frugal" https://pagesix.com/2017/10/25/cbs-evening-news-didnt-hire-a-big-star-because-the-network-is-frugal/

Some local stations have their anchors work Sunday-Thursday, though it's becoming less common.

True. I am familiar and currently takes FNC for major stories or updates. But it does not have a traditional newscast and never has.

Good point. Seems with CBS the Saturday edition is pre-empted due to college football.

Page Six is hardly a reliable source, considering it is part of The New York Post, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch, who of course owns FOX, so they have an agenda about doing their opposition down at every opportunity.

That said, the last time CBS hired a big outside name, for their evening news, was Katie Couric, and that didn't go so well for them, so it's kind of understandable that they didn't seek a big name and promoted from within.

Also, the broadcast has not truly had a long term anchor (10 years +)since Dan Rather left in 2005. From having had just 2 anchors in over 40 years, to having had 5 anchors in the past 12 years (Bob Schieffer, Katie Couric, Scott Pelley, Anthony Mason and now Jeff Glor), I can imagine CBS looking to establish Jeff Glor as a long term anchor of the broadcast, and hopefully get about 20 years or so out of this appointment.

Although several times there were rumours about Sheppard Smith getting a newscast on the Fox network, maybe even a simulcast of The Fox Report, when that was on Fox News Channel.

The pre-emptions due to CBS Sports commitments were the reason the weekend editions of the CBS Evening News were retired. Now "CBS Weekend News", produced by CBSN airs in its place.
