Jeff Glor also presented the last iteration of "The Early Show", he was one of the two "CBS Evening News: Weekend Edition" presenters and the original overnight presenter for CBSN

Interesting choice as well, notably younger than most of their recent presenters

Yeah now Lester Holt is the elder statesman of the Big3 newscasts. Surprised/Not Surprised they didnt appoint a woman. Though CBS News is probably still gun-shy from the Katie Couric years. Not that it was her fault.

But a veteran of the CBS Evening News. He's been a weekend anchor of the programme since 2009, and many times a substitute host for Scott Pelley and before him, Katie Couric.

I think this is the first time since Dan Rather replaced Walter Cronkite that a weekend anchor has taken over from the weekday one. Lots of people were expecting John Roberts to succeed Dan Rather, but that didn't happen. Also, when Katie Couric left, the favourite to replace her was weekend anchor Russ Mitchell, but again that didn't happen.

He was never a main presenter of the Early Show, though he was a newsreader in the final years.

Jeff Glor is a safe choice. I still think having a woman do at least one of the three network newscasts would make sense. The idea of never naming a permanent anchor and always having a roster of people to do the show a few weeks at a time would have been interesting too.

The mistake was still getting rid of Scott too soon.

It would have been interesting, but NBC tried that in the early 1970s when Chet Huntley left: Frank McGee, David Brinkley, and John Chancellor were a part of a rotating roster on the just-launched NBC Nightly News. The setup didn't work, and Chancellor was eventually made the solo anchor.

And one of the first things American news consultants did when they began advising European stations in the 1990s was urge the use of permanent weekday anchors instead of rotating teams. For better or for worse, the role personality is probably too significant in U.S. TV news for a rotating setup to be adopted on a full-time basis.

Off topic but I think a rotating anchor maybe difficult now a days with big personalities in news. The anchors probably would be fighting for equal air time or more, they’d want more promotion for themselves and to solo cover big events or news. They’d probably be scrutinizing the ratings, social media buzz and their Q scores.

Jeff Glor is a safe choice and certainly has paid his dues at the network.

Oh look, another white male.

Well what should they do, ignore all white males just to box tick? Jeff Glor on the face of it, has earned his stripes and is rewarded with the top job.

Glor and Erica Hill were the final weekday presenters of the Early Show. Glor and Hill were part of the 2010-11 team, which included Marysol Castro and WCBS-TV 's Chris Wragge. Castro and Wragge later left the show.
