This came from an article regarding CBS Evening News and its proposed multi-anchor format

Quote:
CBS' chief White House correspondent John Roberts apparently remains in the running, while an intriguing name to surface recently is Lara Logan, a former model from South Africa and now a well-regarded correspondent who built her reportorial chops covering the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere.

and heres what NY Daily News suggested
Quote:
She's young and beautiful, which might bring in some much-needed new eyes to a fading platform. She's got a British accent, which brings a level of gravitas to the show, without the stuffy, God-like approach Moonves wants to ditch.

And since joining CBS News, she's proven able to report big stories and willing to go into dangerous locations to get them.

Do you think a British reporter could get in the presenters seat on one of America's flagship bulletins?

well to be honest a female anchor is becoming more likly. for example, Campbell Brown is possibly the main sub on NBC (John Siegenthaler is at Weekends), Eleizbeth Largos is regualrly on ABC, but i wouldnt mind seeing a try out with Lara on CBS.

I still like Jay Leno look-alike John Roberts though, i wonder if CBS could be bothered with a duel brodcast with both Lara and John?
what an idea?!!

Is Elizabeth Vargas the regular stand - in when Peter is away, or is she only on occasionally ?

I think she ( LL )would be a good replacement for Dan Rather, I don't like John Roberts presenting style, he seems very uninspiring.

On the subject of CBS News, I watched the evening edition on Sky News last night for the first time and was taken back by th "Fallen Heros" feature. I found this to be macarb and quite frankly chessy. How many other network news bulletins do this.
Although Im aware the british press its in no regard angels on "hyping-up" "Heros" it was just the casual way it was introducted and presented

Seems to have gone unnoticed, but Bob Schieffer is getting the job temporarily from March 10th, until an unspecified time when the bulitten is revamped.

That's American news for you. Have you not seen Fox News? Everything has an added depth of American patriotism involved. I could've sworn they played the American anthem at the top of the hour...

Yeah, I was in New York during the outbreak of war with Iraq and was quite stunted at the patriotism, something which just doesn't seem to exist in my part of the world. Fox and other weren't so much providing a balanced and objective view but more wall-to-wall support of both the decision and the troops.
Speaking as a member of the British press ( regional reporters count don't they? ) we are always told it needs to be a balanced story to hold any credabilty.
Just watching CBS last night, particulary when the war in Iraq no longer holds the front pages, it just hit-home how almost "1984" the whole set-up was.
May I ask if you are in the good of U S of A? Ive oftened wondered what media influences American people have.

Nope, although I have seen many American Newshows (NBC, ABC, Fox, CBS). I would have to say Fox is the most influential mainly due to their bias.

A simple search for "Fox News Biased" would give you lots of results. I think NBC or ABC is the less bias of the four channels. Even CNN (the one that we do not see, the domestic USA edition) has very little news content and more crap with adverts. CNN International is better than CNN US.
