Someone else commented its a dura. Newscast studio is reporting its a video panel. I not seen it moving so I dont know. Alos they are claiming the a frosted panel wall can obscure the newsroom. I would imagine they would have updated that 2x2 on the newsroom back walll to a proper newswall at some point. it would look great it was. It does look odd currently. But with Sinclair taking over. who know whats going to happen. Knowing Sinclair they probably will make them sell the building for a profit and move into a double-wide trailer on the edge of town. SO they can plow the money into hiring more right wing commentators and more staff for their terrorism desk. Monsters.

I totally agrees with your assessment. Not sure what happened to WGN's. Especially with WGN being the flagship station of the group. But therw was so much upheaval happening at Tribune with the broadcast group being spun off from the namesake newspaper and the having Tribune selling and eventually having to move out of its namesake tower and now the possible Sinclair take over. Seems like particularity with WGN a bad decision was made. Its not good. But maybe its symptomatic as WPIX has a rubbish set as well. Sad end for a once proud dominate station group and channel owner.
I like KFOR's new set - although Tribune are somewhat inconsistent with their upgrades.
This one looks great, as does KTLA's and quite a few of their other stations to get new sets recently. However, WGN in Chicago and WPIX in New York - both in the top 3 TV markets - have been given much cheaper-looking sets.

WSVN 7 Miami - Never known to rest on their laurels... the grand dame of tabloid stations continues to be the Queen of OTT. They recently recently debuted a new presentation area in their NewsPlex studio. Its called the.... wait for it....PLEX DECK. Basically is utilizes an underused balcony that over looks the NewsPlex. The swooping camera boom is used to sweep across the newsroom. The latest updates comes on heels of the $500,000 upgrades that the NewsPlex received in the last year. Ohhh WSVN there is no one like you!

I know. WSVN has been doing this since the 90s. And yes it certainly looks like the car park. But likely they werent broadcasting at the time. Or they could have been reviewing CCTV footage for s story. They love 'caught on camera' stories.
I know their graphics are insane and totally OTT. But the sheer number and variety of graphics used and designed in-house is simply amazing for a what amounts to singular station. (Which includes work for their sister stations WHDH 7-Boston). They are not all masterpieces, but they pump out a lot. So its a creative force that is rarely seen in local tv and is even more impressive seeing as many stations in the US are part of station groups where most things are mandated and hubbed. Even down the music used, WSVN has their own in house composer. Simply unheard of.
Certainly their look only works for the Miami market. One of flashiest cities in the country. Where much of the popular hails from Latin American countries.
Here was a recent morning newscast. Imagine waking up to this?! All the presnters looks like they just walked from the club into the newsroom. But it works for Miami and has work for WSVN for decades.
And waaaay back in the 80s after they lost their NBC affiliation deal, news became the programming draw.
Gotta love WSVN - only they could make a fairly basic screen on a fairly basic balcony sound exciting.
Also, is it just me, or are some of the small screens below the balcony showing cctv of their car park?!

WBBM 2 CBS - Chicago has a brand new set sitting idle in a spare studio for a while now. Well apparently according to veteran Chicago Media reporter Robert Feder the new set will be finally be dusted off and make it to air sometime next month. So strange.

CBS-owned WBBM-Channel 2 is the latest Chicago station to be building a new state-of-the-art set for its newscasts. If all goes as planned, it could be operational sometime next month. The move to the cavernous and windowless space will mean curtains for the streetfront studio facing Daley Plaza at Washington and Dearborn that’s been in use by CBS 2 since 2008. Earlier this year, new news sets were unveiled at Tribune Broadcasting WGN-Channel 9 and Fox-owned WFLD-Channel 32.

Probably no need for pictures. Blue walls, with screens in a grid, bricks, wood, desk with screen and logo on the front, and a comfortable interview area with single chairs.

I don't see the connection between what you said, and what you're quoting from Robert Feder's site. It quite clearly says the new set has not been constructed yet.

A video taken of the set in June proves otherwise:

It has apparently been sitting there unused for a few months due to a contractual obligation with the city of Chicago regarding the use of their streeside studio.
