That desk is hideaous. I didnt think TARDIS, but it totally looks like it and those monitors look pointless. But Im sure the touchscreens will never or rarely get any use regularly. The guff from the Devlin about this being a futuristic set is so off its laughable.

WHAS 11 ABC Louisville Kentucky debuted their new set. In the same vein as the ugly KING 5 Seattle and other TEGNA owned stations sets. This one just feels off some how. The strip of wood and the vertical mounted screens and the grey putty coloured just feels off somehow. The set neither feels warm or bright. The desk is just wrong. I do appreciate the added Fleur-di-lys. Its a nice local touch. But I'm sure thier could have been a much better application to add it to the set. And the lighting on these TEGNA stations sets just seem off.

WDSU 16 South Bend Indiana.
For a market of this size this News wall is impressive. I personally dont like wood on sets anymore, or at least a minimal use, they chose to add small strips on the side of the newswall. I like the grey walls. It looks great. Its a fairly simple set. Not too crazy about the anchor desk. but its quite good for this market.

I don't understand. You like some, you don't like others. They all look the same to me. Some wood, a big screen background showing a shot of the city, an unnecessarily complex weather forecast setup, a desk with a screen on the front, and usually some degree of garish bright blue.

I'm sorry you dont enjoy the thread. If you want to contribute, you are welcome to add your critique of set presented, but if they are all the same...you might not have anything to add. I can understand that. Im sure you'll enjoy the other threads available on this fantastic site for TV presentation. Have fun exploring the threads that interest you, there are plenty to choose from. Thanks for stopping by to have a peek at the thread.
In the meantime Im going to watch this coverage from the "unnecessarily complex weather forecast setup" from Oklahoma's 9 KWTV. (tough to watch from 5.00 min mark)
And the unneccesary one in Birmingham. Tough to watch from 2.05 min.

Apart from bigger and bigger screens US local set design does seem to be stuck in the late 20th century.
And although it would clearly vary from broadcaster to broadcaster how much of these vast sets do the broadcasters actually use. From the clips we see here it's very rare to see anything other than the anchors sat at the newsdesk.

Didn't say I don't enjoy the thread. On the contrary, I find it fascinating.

The thing about the overdone weather centers is that weather is what drives people to the news and why there's a report or quick update in every block. Weather apps are good and all for immediate conditions but people still trust the local meteorologists who know the area and run their own models to tweak the forecasts. This is why you see stations spend money on weather radars (which they'll tout as being live as the NWS have a delay), storm chasers and even the million dollar mobile radars at NBCU.
I kind of like WHAS's back wall with the simple wood strip with recessed lighting. The only thing I'd change would be the monitors - for some reason TEGNA likes the ones with the large mullions. As for the fleur-de-lis I would have put them on either side of the monitors.
As for the garish blues some experts in both the technological field and the ever right consultants say it looks best in HDTV.
