They also need to rethink their shot blocking. In an opening video the camera was off center with part of th monitor wall cut off and some of the concrete visible.
I think KARE-11 really need to re-think their floor treatment. Shiny floor with nothing breaking it up doesn't look great. It needs a rostrum or some form of floor treatment to locate the desk visually.

You bring up great points. Seeing as it was designed in house might be the reason by the blocking isnt as "professional" as is usually done. The lighting lets it down even further. Sorry KARE11. Not good guys.

Really horrible new virtual set from WGBA, the NBC affiliate in Green Bay, Wisconsin:
http://www.newscaststudio.com/2016/01/27/green-bay-station-debuts-virtual-set/
Looks like the kind of thing you might see as a temporary set - but apparently it's here to stay.

That station is owned by E.W. Scripps Company, the parent company of WXYZ Detroit. Apparently, something happened during the commercial break.
This is what WXYZ looks like, for example

The weird thing here is that Scripps have actually introduced some pretty nice sets at other stations in recent years - KGTV in San Diego, for example...

Not quite sure what WGBA did to deserve what they ended up with.

From what I've heard this upgrade was in the works before Scripps purchased the station from Journal. From what I understand the station was still broadcasting in 4:3 prior to this upgrade.
As for the set its not up to European standards but sadly is one of the better virtual sets I've seen done here in the US.

Don't mean to bump threads but this thread seems to be a bumpaple type. Tonight at the 11 PM newscast KSND the NBC Owned station for San Diego is going to start broadcasting from a brand new facility (almost new - a few year old building that was gutted) in Kearney Messa, CA. Their previous set and studio was in downtown from the NBC Tower (not owned by them but named) where they had an aging street side studio. This facility follows NBC's tradition of using large monitors mounted vertically to create a window type view. The desk is the same design seen at their Telemundo sister stations in LA and Chicago.

Edit: Actually it hasn't officially launched yet as the clock hasn't struck 11PM in California. If your up at 7AM BST that's when the first broadcast will air. You can stream it at www.nbc7.com
Edit 2: The newscast is on and they're using the same graphics as before. One or two journalists mentioned new graphics but they are the same.

Here are the piccys from the FB from above.
This set closely resembles the KNBC set. I do like the virtual window. Thanks for the background about KNSD studio's had no idea another building was named the NBC Tower. Just thought WMAQ-Chicago did so. Nice looking set. Besides the branding on the front of the anchor desk. Its devoid of any hard branding. Surprised there isnt an NBC logo somewhere on one of the columns. Apparently according to SETSTUDIO its a JACK MORTON. Looks better than the crap they created from TEGNA for KING 5 SEATTLE. Those are horrible. I really like these anchor desks.

The big wall of monitors behind the desk looks good, but there's something about the rest of the set that I don't like. I think it's all the plain blue, which just looks like a 'default' shade - almost like chromakey - and the wood panels, which look a bit 70s.

Blue is the predominant color of their graphics but I would have gone with a lighter shade. I think they're backlit LED's so they're changeable.

I had, probably naïvely, assumed that the blue panels were just LED testing. If that is the standard look it looks like a mistake, as if they've forgotten to chroma-key in something. (I know blue is less-used for chroma key these days, and that the in-vision screen graphics mean you couldn't chroma-key, before anyone says that...)
