KABC 7 Los Angeles - KABC Debuted their new set this weekend. Along with upgraded simple clean graphics. Its a large set. I like the circular floor graphics. Lots of white and a bit of wood on the floor. It features what looks like a large rear projection screen behind the anchor desk instead of the now normal multiscreen array we are seeing everywhere. Looks kinda washed out to me for the night skyline beauty shots. I love that KABC still enforces the use of the Circle7 lapel badges.

Here's a post I made over at TVNewsTalk.net about the new KABC set.

I found this tweet showing the time-lapse of the construction:

If you have trouble viewing the video here it is from the ABC7 YouTube page.

A decent set, let down slightly by the rear projection screen background. It looks good during the day from some images I've seen, but very grainy and washed-out at night.

I'm surprised they haven't followed WABC and WLS in using a stylized skyline on a video wall.

KABC - LA - Found another twitter pics. Im such a fan of the Circle7 pin. Such a classic. Looking at the live broadcast, the rear projection screen looks horrific. ITs early morning in LA and their taking a beauty shot of City Hall. Its shockingly bad. Its washed out and fuzzy and blurred. Doesnt look good at all. Lets the whole set down really. Live skyline shots at night dont really work....at least i havent seen a good one. So maybe they need to go with a stylized shot like WLS and WABC.

Bay News 9 - Tampa, FL local 24hr news channel debuted their new set.
Previously they featured a newsroom type set.

Now they have colour changing LED walls. But instead of just changing colours they also can feature graphics kinda cool actually. (Love the Breaking News Graphic. Kinda reminds me of the old SkyNews wall back in the day) Probably the best use of this technology that I've seen. KSL in Salt Lake City has similar tech. Is that carpet on the floor? Surely Not? Its really hard to tell. I dont like the desks. Park Place designs dont do nice anchor desks IMO. BayNews9 sister station in Orlando and the spanish language channel InfoMas, according to FNC wlll also get new set. Unfortunately they didnt update the hideous graphics.

Watch the timelapse here - you can seem how dynamic those LED walls are. Quite good.

Kinda reminds me of this. I always loved the way Sky handled breaking news. Even if you had the tv on in the background....the red and shwoosh noise make you look over or at least give it an ear. Hate they got rid of this or at least didnt modernize it. It was such a signature part of their DNA i think. The graphics are great now....but kinda ehhh at the same time.

WFTS - Tampa Bay (ABC) - There are loads of this same set across the country. Very similar to the others that have been constructed. Its a Scripps station...the station formerly had a newsroom back drop. They switched it around and you can still see the newsroom at the very bottom of the image.
Here only one pic, you might have seen a variation on this set before. Too much wood. Standing anchor desk.
Here is more and it includes a timelapse.

I imagine they installed the Furio for augmented reality. Their weather system WSI has a plug in with Ross Video for a different method of weather presentation. KNBC across town does it with their Ross pedestals. I believe using track based systems make augmented and virtual reality easier because there is no need for optically based tracking systems as everything is in one permanent location.

Here's the original tweet the image was from.

News13 - Orlando, FL. The 24hr local news channel, thats sister to cable channel, BayNews9 - Tampa, FL also recently relaunched with a similar, but smaller set to its sister channel. No graphics changes. According to Florida News Centre it can able to be used as a back-up site for hurricane evacs from Tampa's BayNews9 studios if needed. They set does not have an in studio weather center. It originates from another location.

Similar to sister station BayNews9 the walls turn red when they are covering breaking news.

KYTV - 3 Springfield MO. This tiny NBC affiliate the Ozark mountains of Southern Missouri received a substantial update. Though Im not a fan of the materials used, I do like the majority of this set design. Im increasingly impressed with the designs they tiny affiliates have been getting over the last couple of years. This one isnt too bad. Like many of the new sets today it features a large news wall behind the anchor desk. Im no a fan of the anchor desk. Too complicated.
