KETV 7 Omaha is prepping to move to their new building a restored train station today.
They have used this same set for ages. With slight modifications over the years.
Here some fascinating pics of the old train stations they are moving to. BEFORE AND AFTER.

They spent $20million on this place and this is best they could come up with. Kinda ehh in my opinion. The blue blocks are meant to resemble train tracks in a nod to the train station. And they actually used faux brick. Yuck.

Just because you get to it quicker. I'd just appreciate it if you would provide attribution to those comments I and others make on TVNewsTalk along with any other websites. It gets annoying, I even had Tribune newspapers rip off one of my screen captures that requested a credit - with out any given. I realize that I was not involved with the production of the news clip but from some research the person who takes the screen shot can claim copyright

Also I got annoyed that Newscast studio has stolen my comments verbatim.

You don't have to provide links, I am just asking that you write something like "according to rkolsen (or whomever)".

That being said your on top of things and keep up the postings.

Having trouble editing but I commend KETV for turning an eyesore and a piece of Omaha history into the 21st century. I like the video wall and the different vertical stand up positions. I don't care for the desk or the weather center. The weather center in my opinion just looks out of place and I wish that stations would get rid of standing news desks - they're fine for a small area for a report but most be difficult for a long newscast.

I don't get how the blue rectangles reflect train tracks on the ground. If I designed it I would make it a solid blue curve but with either the grey ish or black line protruding from each side akin to a rail road tie.

One other thing I love is that they didn't take the move as a turn to automate. From the looks of it the cameras are still operated by humans and the production gallery is fully staffed. Hearst is one of those companies where no matter the size of the market none of their newscasts are automated (if I recall correctly Hearst de-automated their two most recent purchases) and they are providing jobs to the local economy.

I like KETV's new set a lot. I guess the pattern on the floor looks a bit like negative/inverted train tracks (with the gaps coloured in), if not a faithful representation.

I don't mind the desk - it's a bit different but a nice clean design. They do sometimes sit at it rather than stand.

Renovating that old building can't have been the cheapest option for them, so it's great to see a local station doing something like that, really putting itself at the heart of the community it serves. Hearst seem like a decent company. I've come across them before while I was in California - KSBW in Monterey is a great little station for such a small market (#125).

WLBT 3 Jackson MS. Just refreshed their set and add a video backdrop with what seems to be a live video feed. Nice. Unfortunately the feed is super bouncy. Check out the capture from Freddie. Nice idea bad execution. Eeek.

I love that skyline look. Gritty - looks like St Louis or parts of Philadelphia.

It's those 'before' and 'after' pictures that show what a total waste that studio actually is. Yes, i know they've gone underground to basement level because it's quieter - but any sound engineer could sound proof and EQ out any major noise in a couple of hours.

Hats off to KETV for refurbishing a superb building, which otherwise would have seen a wrecking ball - but, the main entrance hall should have been the studio/faux newsroom.

Look at it. Exposed brickwork which can be picked out and enhanced with up and down lighters, and those lovely oblong two story high windows. White frost those over, and colourise back light them to match the time of broadcast, and you'd have some great studio 'beauty' shots, going into and back from commercial breaks.
WW Update and Mouseboy33 gave kudos
