North American Affilliates/Network Set Design

Yeah its been around a while. The lighting is horrible and too bright it blasts out the anchors with light skins. Look bad. Other parts of the set is chipped and sting led lights are burned out...just bad.

After 17 years and 2 buildings later WJLA 7 - DC got a new set. Thats amazing.
But the set is underwhelming for a major market like DC.
Kinda Ehh. actually.

Sinclair recently acquired WJLA and in the least the spent money on the set, but they are notorious IMO for being cheapo's. They always try to shoe horn in small market rubbish into large markets. That includes their creepy Fox News philosophy. According to what Im reading on DC news blog the comments are in the negative. Some comments that its looks worse on air than in the pics. Ugh. Looking at it again. It almost looks like a parody set. Like something you would see on a tv show about a tv station or a morning show. It just seems not well designed. Like it was designed by a Hollywood sitcom set designer rather than a news set designer....just seems off to me some how.

It's undoubtedly a fresher look than they previously had (not difficult) - but, yes, a small-market feel, and very underwhelming after a 17-year wait.

The side panels behind the anchor desk, which are the backdrop for the single presenter shots, look especially cheap. There are gaps between them, and they're held together with bits of metal that look dirty on camera.

The only vaguely interesting design feature is the bit with an image of the Capitol that surrounds the screen behind the anchor desk.

WTTG 5 DC - Well within days of each other the FOX and ABC debuted new sets.

Interesting the metal column was retained from the previous FOX-mandated set.
Not ground breaking but its an improvement. To bad they all have to keep those hideous FOX Graphics. Yuck.

Long time (Sinclair-owned) dump ABC33/40 Birmingham, AL its moving to a new set.
Finally spending some money. Currently on a temp set.

There's something I really like about the WTTG set. It feels like a really good evolution of the old mandated set. I actually prefer it to some of the new Devlin O&O designs.

Looks very bright and fresh on air too...

It does look fresh and bright and modern. It looks better on air. The hideous FOX mandated graphics lets the whole thing down. Have always hated them. Even if it was trying to be tabloid its not a good tabloid (ie WSVN/WHDH). And the theme is the worst!

WPXI 11 - Pittsburg is now in temporary digs awaiting the new set construction. So many wooden monstrosities are biting the dust. Its really exciting to see this new fresher style rolling out all over the place.

WDBJ 7 - Roanoke is on temp set. Following the tragic killing of 2 of its journalists on air, the station gets ready to debut a new look.

I guess WDBJ's work was booked in well before the tragedy and couldn't be rearranged. It's probably the last thing they need right now.

From everything I've seen, they seem like a great team, and I have a huge amount of respect for them.

KDKA 2 -Pittsburg joins is rival in broadcasting from a temporary set. Though KDKA's set is quite. Could this be part of the new set? Well have to wait and see.

OK more pics have emerged of KDKA's temp set. Its definitely not temporary.

KOMO 5 Seattle debuted an expansive set. There are some odd floor graphics which for me ruins the look. The anchor desks have a strange swish feature. The saving grace is the rear back drop. Features and a colour changing led graphic with the skyline overlayed and a small screen strip between the presenters and 2 video walls on the sides
