Carrie Gracie is to return to the BBC News Channel, based in NBH London. She has resigned as BBC China Editor in a row over pay inequality.
Hahaha....
£92,000 for 3 days a week as a presenter 10 years a go would seem to be in line with most of the men now... (although Ben Brown is paid more for some reason, presumably not to do with his gender).

She would have made more of an impact if she resigned fully tbh, don't think her returning to a cushy NC job at 100k a year is going to draw much sympathy for the pay equality cause.

I have more of a problem with the BBC letting another person on to the payroll of an already seemingly overstaffed channel than the supposed pay gap that can mostly be explained by differences in experience, working hours and in some cases legacy contracts that were over generous.
I wonder what role she would have on the News Channel. There's no shifts available and I can't see them creating one especially with the amount of cuts that have taken place over the last 5 years since she was last there.
I don't really think any existing presenter should have to suffer to give Carrie a regular slot on the channel; Ben Brown and Jane Hill have already lost out on their previous weekday slots as it is, they along with Clive/Anita/Shaun/Simon/Martine are much stronger presenters in my book as well, even though I do like Carrie as a journalist. A news correspondent with relief presenting role would be most appropriate in my view.
She is permanent staff, they have to put her somewhere.
In no other organisation would someone
resigning
have to be found another role.
I say this as someone who likes Carrie as a presenter and as a correspondent and who thinks she is a much better presenter than some of those working on the channel.
I'm surprised Ben Brown hasn't considered a return to a correspondent/editor role.
Why would he want to move into a different role when he is paid more than his colleagues to do less work. Whoever agreed his salary should be fired for gross misconduct, but it's not his fault.
