You can get a somewhat better idea of the station's streetside studios in this clip:

Typhical America though - trying to build up a relatively small crash into an international terrorist incident!

I actually give them credit for handling the incident with tact. What you described was the opposite of what happened!

I think they did it well - it could indeed have been some sort of terroist incident, and as it turned out it was deliberate. You can't have a massive smashing noise like that, with a reaction from the presenter like that, and ignore it. Yet thay still did the normal news programme as well.

I really would have thought that a car crashing into a studio would warrant an evacuation. Even if it wasn't a terrorist attack (which couldn't have been ascertained until a full search of the car) the risk of a fuel line being ruptured combined with all the electric in a studio could have been disastrous. There's also the small matter of the studio becoming a crime scene.

Presumably in the time that the OB presenter was yakking away (and they probably asked her to fill for a bit) they had enough time to ascertain whether there was any danger to the staff.

However there's a certain breed of journalists who wouldn't turn away from a story like this that arrived on their doorstep. And I'll always salute them over the ones that think they have a nine til five job.

Because, as everyone knows, the best way to determine whether a car that has crashed into a building contains a bomb or fuel leak is to press your nose against the window? Remember this was a deliberate act, to continue on-air from that studio was irresponsible in the extreme.
