Sensible decision really. Even if VDP had continued on BBC Two alone, it would have surely been dominated by the news from Brussels and it's usually better to join forces and make specials rather than all fight over the same correspondents...

Agreed. Good decision.

Awful, awful circumstances but I have been very impressed with the BBC coverage this morning - both on Breakfast and the News Channel.

Joanna Gosling doing the coverage from 9 o'clock in VDP studio on BBC Two, World and BBC News.

Political correspondent Ben Wright is the first correspondent in vision on the scene.

Bit of a strange situation at the moment where we have both BBC1 and BBC2 providing rolling coverage but with two different programmes. Only for 15 minutes of course but rather unusual never the less.

Was watching on BBC Breakfast earlier, and they were very cautious about the story earlier. They also mentioned about two flights to the UK that were scheduled to leave the airport in Brussels this morning, around 07:00 local time. Both left as scheduled, the programme reported. They also were very cautious when the reports came in about the explosions on the Metro, with Charlie and Naga both stating they were initially unconfirmed.

Isn't that the BBC way though? i.e. wanting to verify sources before confirming. I thought Breakfast was excellent with its continuing coverage: measured and informative.

The standard BBC approach. Meanwhile Piers Morgan just reading everything off Twitter, though is highlighting what is unconfirmed. Doing a very good job to be fair.

And though I never thought I'd want to see more of Piers I do think coverage on all channels should occasionally breakaway from pictures of the scene to the studio.
