Odd mistake on BBC World News at 0600GMT they introduced the show with Adnan Nwaz then took a package that I assumed was designed to go out simultaneously for World, News Channel and Breakfast*. After John Kay sent it back to London with a generic toss Adnan went to break but the Newsday graphic was played out.

But it wouldn't be STV's ads would it? They'd lose slots.

If there had have been any adverts then yes they probably would have been STV's.

Basically the breakfast franchise wasn't extended, from 9:25 GMB was airing on ITV/UTV/STV

I will add that MSNBC has continued coverage through out the night - something that is rarely done. From about 9PM-2AM ET Rachel Maddow and Brian Williams led election night coverage. They dipped into coverage regarding Brussels at least an hour it seemed but as it was the middle of the night in Europe not much news was made. At 2AM Ari Melber (MSNBC's chief legal analyst) and Frances Rivera (afternoon anchor) took over coverage. There was still one race to be called but it wasn't a big deal. The 2AM hour was mostly politics but from 3AM on it's been almost all Brussels coverage with analysts, producers and the few reporters on scene.

Because MSNBC was still going they bumped Early Today (and subsequent updates later on) from their typical studio in 3K to one of their insert studios. MSNBC produces Early Today which is a half hour show that goes out at 4AM and ever half hour after that n

No. It happened regularly when ITV had the Formula 1 rights (think it was F1 that caused the issue). Some live races were during the GMTV franchise hours (and that was when GMTV was a separate non-ITV plc company). ITV and GMTV came to a deal that allowed ITV to show the F1 during GMTV hours, and in return GMTV could broadcast later (during ITV's airtime) as a quid-pro-quo.

A very different reason of course, but it did mean GMTV went past their normal 0925 cut-off time.

Although ITV is almost one giant company now over the UK, what would have stopped STV saying "no ta" and opting out at 09:25? Surely an agreement would be made to afford ITV/STV their 65 mins back from ITV Breakfast?

Why? If the ad breaks went out as normal, I doubt stv would care. The only difference now a days is instead of a itn news special, gmb can be shown instead.

Wonder how happy ITN are with GMB staying on rather than them covering it?

Doesn't ITN provide news coverage for GMB?

Not directly as the licence to my understanding requires separatism however as part of the ITV news group - Gmx. ITV news ( itn) and ITV local news which to my understanding also includes stv news and ITV news as well . They were there. Would have taken time for ITV to set up though not sure about this morning however ( maybe ITV 2 for that yesterday ) but never mind it's done now however .

No - not quite - it provides some newsgathering support (trucks, camera crew, possibly some rushes). It isn't anywhere near the same as, say ITN providing the News service for C5.

The production journalists who produce the news output for GMB are not part of ITN and are directly employed by ITV Plc AIUI.

I dare say it's been mentioned in the thread for GMB but itv have extended it to run until 1030. Is this the first time the breakfast franchise (which is I think still legally separate) has been extended beyond its 0925 off air time?

Suspect the bit of ITV that copes with the federal nature of the network (now just STV vs ITV plc) would have been involved in the discussion. If STV took the F1 coverage, they would have been bound to have done the quid-pro-quo contractually - and I suspect Ofcom (don't think it was still the ITC) would have had to have been consulted about the change of GMTV's franchise hours, and would have included non-ITV plc companies in the discussion?
