I think people are getting too hung up on Brexitcast being a replacement for This Week - it isn't. A slot became available in the schedules and they are trying out how to bring an award winning and hugely popular podcast to a wider audience.

I like the rough and ready nature of the TV output, it was clearly a stylistic choice to match the nature of the podcast. I can see how people who haven't listened to it though will see that it looks a bit odd.

I felt it was good as a show in its own right. But This Week replacement worthy... it is not.

They obviously all have a lot of chemistry together. But it’s released as a podcast earlier that day anyway, and it being televised doesn’t add anything to it.

Also, as much as Brexit feels like it’s going to be around forever... it’s not. I certainly don’t think this can match This Week’s 16 years longevity.

I think bed times are going to be a little earlier for me on a Thursday from now on.

While I doubt this will last for the 16 years This Week did, the political aftermath of Brexit, whatever form it takes, will last for a good few years.

It’s still on the telly now though and there a couple of things they could do to adapt it for new audiences that wouldn’t distract from it though.

Of course it’s not a replacement - that’s what people are saying. There should have been a decent replacement rather than sticking some cameras up on a radio show.

What would replace This Week?

Brexitcast has been winning awards, it is an insiders discussion on the current political situation. It seems to serve a similar purpose.

What Brexitcast becomes, once Brexit is not all consuming - would probably be formulated around podcasts and TV content now they have the timeslot.

I didn’t hate it as much I thought I would and I’d go as far to say it’s a pretty good watch.

I think there should have been a little bit of an introduction to explain it to the viewer rather than what they did of sort of explaining it to each other.

Glad you gave it a shot. I agree with you, there should have been a pre-recorded intro summing up the podcast. The first couple of minutes of them trying to explain were a little painful and I was willing them to move on.

It's a little unfortunate that parliament isn't sitting at the moment because the most interesting nuggets of information/gossip tends to come from Laura & Chris.

Rob Burley posted another tweet to say that 200,000 more watched Brexitcast on the BBC News Channel bringing it up to a total UK overnight audience of 1.1 million. I don’t know whether this includes Northern Ireland where it aired at 00.15.

Burley is very quick to brag about his ratings on Twitter. Especially for his dire Politics Live show which personally I find a shout fest since it became a round-table format.

I've finally got round to watching my BBC1 recording of Brexitcast.

Initial thoughts are the content is good and 100x better than The Pledge, but that is where it ends.

Presentation wise, the BBC really needs a radio studio that can be adapted for television. Global are masters at this with their stations which are adapted for posting videos on social media and which can be sold to news providers, especially with the LBC interviews.

Seeing four presenters crammed across a desk with the radio gallery in the background doesn't make for good viewing. France's Bourdin Direct, which is an RMC radio breakfast show also simulcast on RMC Découverte has the radio to tv mix spot on with a radio desk in a tv studio, so the presenter can still drive the desk, but no need for headphones etc. There's also a video wall for news and weather bulletins.

They've gone for that look deliberately, they could have had everyone round a table rather than next to each other very easily. Watch the 5 Live webcam when Fighting Talk is on tomorrow to see an example.

Bear in mind that in future weeks Katya and Adam are likely to be in Brussels so it will be less cramped.

The BBC needs to sort out its development departments if it can’t come up with a new, innovative, late-night political show.

The Today programme wins awards - should they throw some cameras up and replace Breakfast?

I just want to stress again that I like Brexitcast but I also love well-produced television.

With constant budget cuts, I'm not sure a new late night political show is a top priorty or should it be tbh. A dose of reality wouldn't go amiss here.
