Sophie Raworth, Philippa Thomas and Samantha Simmonds collectively holding the fort for BBC News and BBC World this afternoon.

Urr, so? Simon McCoy, Huw Edwards and Christian Fraser were on the other day?

Don't think James was referring to the sex of the presenters...

Correct. That wasn’t even in my mind when I posted.

..so now they cut May off, so that the BBC 1 programme could start, rather than keep May on the NC as a ‘clean feed’

All a shambles ( quite fitting really)

That was really irritating! For anyone watching May's speech.. then to have it interrupted and the situation all repeated again.

This annoyed me to, and has annoyed me for some time how during rolling breaking news coverage there isn't a smooth transition from one segment to the other. No "BBC1 viewers joining us in a moment", and again at the end we had no introduction from the new presenter, and 15 mins later yet another presenter with no proper handover or introduction, it all just comes across messy.

Possibly. Through the results would be three days apart as EU elections can't be counted until Sunday evening.

Local elections in England and Northern Ireland are on Thursday 2 May, so there's the possibility of many of us voting twice in a month anyway if we have a general election or European elections.

Some parties would have you think we were on the verge of a general election every day since the last one, so I hope, for the benefit of my licence fee, they are spending no more time planning for it now, than they would at any normal time.

They've had enough practice recently, so if and when one is called, all they need to do is dig out the plans from last time, and do exactly the same, probably the exact same personnel both in front and behind the cameras.

Well the broadcasters don't call the election. 🤣

But they would certainly plan for one if they felt it were likely.

I do wonder if they have pencilled out satellite space as well as trucks from Europe / crew for a few Thursdays in May as a gamble.

It be unlikely to be in May. The deadline for the 2nd has passed - the deadline for the 9th is next week and so on.
With May resignation pledge it makes it unlikely she would be the PM for the election and therefore a Tory leadership change/contest would occur before an election pushing any into June/July.
