Misread "leading" for "leaving" there. Has the "ban" on anchors being sent to location been lifted then. Although this is arguably the most significant story of our lifetimes I'm not sure the anchor being in Brussels today adds anything.

I bet they wish they’d kept Huw in London...

I've always thought Christian Fraser (who is excellent on Beyond 100 Days with Katty Kay) deserved a higher profile on the News Channel and BBC News generally.

A serious candidate for senior presenter on Network TV one day I'd say.

I agree. I reckon one day when one of the current top guns such as Huw or George move on, Christian will be in line to take over. And although I'm not a huge fan, I can see Clive Myrie with a senior position on Network bulletins in the coming years (if he isn't already).

I don't think it's a bad thing having two anchors on the same site, gives them the flexibility of having one on World and the other on NC if required or as tonight, one on BBC1 and the other on a simulcast. Add to that a presenter in London on standby, and when they are spending the majority of the time presenting live it gives them time to have breaks and prepare. I imagine Christian Fraser is probably capable of anchoring non stop from 6pm to 10pm or even later if required but with things changing all the time and not many packages to introduce, it's a lot of work.

As for the potential Brexit dates mentioned,it's changed so much over the last few hours I wouldn't read anything into any reports until there is a press conference detailing what's been agreed.

This Week crossing to Katya Adler live in Brussels, something it wouldn't normally do during a typical show. But as Andrew said "unlike Question Time, we're live so we can update you now".

Cue some makeshift live graphics.

It wasn’t a ‘ban’, more of a reduction to much lower levels.

Is that a media hub where they broadcast from in the European parliament?

Its the Justus Lipsius building, immediately opposite the European Commission. The leaders used to meet in the same building, now they meet down the road. However the press have stayed put, so the press conferences by the presidents of the Council and the Commission, as well as the national ‘briefings’ still take place in that building.

Most of the press are below the platform where some of the TV broadcast positions are are, radio tend to be in amongst the press, some other TV is from the floor of the atrium. There are also press rooms just off that. In the BBCs case there are two fixed positions on the ‘mezzanine’ and a radio cam - used for the Katya Adler live above.

Not really - the circuit had been rock solid for about 12 hours before that- carrying three outgoing TV paths, three return visions and (up to) four paths for radio- who’d been live almost as much as TV. Sometimes failures happen at the worst possible moment. The connection was restored quickly and then the checks to try and work out what went wrong could begin. If there’s something to be changed / reconfigured it’ll be done.

Christian used that radio cam in the 9pm hour presumably so the 10 and Huw could prepare/rehearse on the mezzanine.

CNN and Sky News also presented from the atrium floor at times this evening.

Tbf Clive Myrie has been in Christchurch this week, but has been introduced more as a "reporter". I don't want to get off topic but I'd have thought he'd have qualified as an anchor.

I've never seen anyone captioned as an 'anchor', it's not a term that's really used officially

I suppose it depends if he's reporting from location into a bulletin... then he's a reporter, if he's presenting from that location then he's not

That's probably been used before during a By-Election crossover to Chris Mason.

Didn't someone say there would be a BBC News Special between 21:30 to 23:35 on the 29th?

I suppose that isn't on anymore now.

Yes, on BBC One.

I doubt they've updated the schedule yet.
