Breaking story on the news channels. Well sort of. Sky are making a mess of it (see my rant in the Sky News thread), News 24 are actually in the lead and making the best of not having much information, and the ITV News Channel have gone for an advert.
Sky's policy of having the newsreaders in separate places is being badly exposed actually. News 24 are getting somewhere because if one presenter runs out of things to say, the other is filling in.
I just flicked N24 on and was quite shocked to see it - I immediately thought it was on the line I use every day. However, they then mentioned it was at Liverpool Central Station (underground) rather than Liverpool Lime Street (the main station in Liverpool).
Gordon Burns cut in mid-report at the end of North West Tonight at about 6.54, and immediately spoke to Merseyside Correspondent Andy Gill over the phone who was at the scene.
Andy Gill now speaking alomst non-stop on NEWS 24.

And doing a good job. Is he a Northwest Tonight reporter, or a national one? If NWT then News 24 Tonight has done it's regional bit without having to try!

Andy Gill is the Liverpool Correspondent for North West Today/Tonight.
Good to see the rail journalist on N24 correcting the presenters - they seemed to assume Liverpool has some sort of London-style underground system. In fact, most of the lines are overground - it's just a small network which is underground. The four main stations - Lime Street, Central, Moorfields and James Street - are looped together underground, and I think it then goes off to Wirral. I'm not really familiar with that line - it isn't one I use frequently.
Jane Hill doing a good job of interviewing to get latest on this story. She's always brilliant at handling breaking news IMO. Sky News seemed a bit messy breaking it. Fortunately so far reports indicate that no one has been injured.
News 24 coverage very good. Kept with it until it seemed no casualties, then moved on to their top story, then went back to recap, and to bring some more info. They're also using their graphics well. When they went back to 'normal' news they reset the Tower, flashed up the breaking news banner one last time and then brought up the red ticker.
Anyone know where they're getting the detailed rail map they're using from? It's got a spelling mistake on it! "Birkenehad Park"! They were able to zoom and pan the map. I presume it's online?
