I think this thread is probably one for the 'insiders' but why is SKY News able to break Breaking news so quickly and ITV news and BBC News 24 at times so much slower.

Is it that there is a difference in methods and strategies or company policy.

I always used to think it was because the BBC are so cautious with the news as shown during 7/7 but ITV are even worse at it, so why?

Have you actually got any examples where ITV have been consistantly in third place?

There's various things people can criticise the ITV News Channel for, but the speed of Breaking News isn't one, if they are actually on air, they are up there with Sky and BBC News 24, breaking the news around about the same time.

ITV love their dramatic breaking news, they built a wall just to display the text "breaking news" (That is the only time they utilise the whole of the surface) in the biggest possible letters.

SKY¦News haven't got a similar wall?

Sky use the whole wall a lot of the time, ITV only use the entire wall when the breaking news sting is used (The rest of the time they just use chunks of it). Thus dramatising "Breaking News", that was my point.

The implication was that the wall was built ONLY for the breaking news graphic!!

Both ITV and SKY use their wall for various uses but I see Sky now put their breaking news graphic TWICE in their wall!

Where's ITV News in your poll - it's not gone yet you know!

Expanding on this issue, I feel "Breaking News" is used far too often on the news channels for stories of relative little importance, often say just for people leaving a building to go somewhere else!

Obviously it can often take time to see how important a story is, so I have no problem with them covering things such as the Liverpool train derailment earlier this week, which didn't turn out to be a major story - but often out of the numerous "Breaking News" stories throughout the day, only a handful are worthy of inclusion.

I hardly think the ITV NC can be classed as a NC

So, it wasn't the ITV News Channel which first broadcast pictures of the 21st of July London Bombers been arrested? Although some would argue that ITV is no longer a news channel a breif glance at their content seems to suggest otherwise (thats oh course neglecting the ad breaks)
