EDIT: Police confirm injuries. Won't elaborate further. (BBC)

Of course in a best-case (least worst?) scenario the injuries could be caused by a mass stampede to leave the Arena rather than by the 'explosion'...

There is one particular photograph being posted on social media which is fake.

The photo in question is of the Arena but is said to be from a training exercise some years ago. Fingers crossed.

An eyewitness suggested to BBC News that the injuries people have reported may have been inflicted in the rush to leave the venue, rather than as a result of anything else.

The evacuation of an arena full of panicking, fearful teenagers - many of whom presumably unaccompanied - would probably be considered a 'serious incident' by the police.

National Rail reporting that trains are not from Manchester Victoria because the station has been evacuated. The 'lines blocked' terminology from Network Rail may be misleading.

This is obviously a newsworthy event which must be distressing for those involved, but i'm pretty convinced (and praying) this isn't what some people think it is.

Injuries may well have been in the panicky, unmanaged stampede of an evacuation.

Some suggestions on Twitter that the bang occurred at the house lights came up at the end of the gig, with speculation that it was a lighting transformer blowing up.

Sadly several fatalities now confirmed. This is looking more and more like a deliberate act by the minute.

Let's just hope so. Although the fact that fatalities have now been confirmed isn't good.

Thoughts with the families of the dead and the people of Manchester this evening.

Be interesting to see what happens at midnight on the BBC. Although I suppose a possible terrorist attack in a major concert venue would be news internationally not only within the UK.
