ITV news should have been on air before now. Given, there wouldn't have been much of an audience to break into, but the magnitude of this event is as said moments ago - unprecendented and I'm sure people are being woken up right across the country to this news.

They should try and get GMB on air early, regardless of who ends up presenting. They should always have somebody on standby at ITN. I really hope they review overnight procedures after this. BBC NC and Sky News may not be doing the greatest job, but at least they are providing rolling coverage.

Looks like they feel Jackpot 247 is more imporrtant. Which seems horribly inappropriate. If they cut to Jeremy Kyle in 5 minutes time...

Any reason why the BBC didn't carry the presser with the Manchester Chief Constable?

It's not just a case of having journos and presenters on standby - you also need people to run the gallery and produce the whole thing. That's quite a lot of staff for the rare occurrence of a major breaking story happening when most potential viewers are asleep and oblivious to the fact that there's anything newsworthy to watch.

Anyway, that press conference didn't really add anything, so I'm going to sleep.

Probably didn't have a crew there and Sky didn't pool the footage?

BBC 5 Live had audio. Could they have not just carried that?

I think we all know there are procedures for getting ITV news or any channel on air at short notice, especially after midnight.

Not sure if the gallery has live access to Radio 5 Live on their mixer.

It could be they recorded it and they'll play it out as live.

From what I heard at work that's not the case yet - but then I'm not in MI5.

Working the other end of the country I wasn't allowed (along with thousands others) to book off until 0200. I had a listen into the local radio channel for that area and the calls were harrowing. Police were on scene within very quickly; within 2 minutes of the first explosion.
