Jane Hill continuing to present on the BBC News Channel & BBC World News at 15:00, having been on air since 09:00.

Presumably not everyone is available (especially with it being the back end of half term and the weekend before the election), so it may be that no-one is available to take over. Especially as they still need someone in the studio in these situations in case of a line break down or other unrelated breaking story, Annita McVeigh is reporting from the concert in Manchester, and Sophie Long and Tim Willcox are in correspondent roles.
I imagine someone will take over in the next couple of hours and Huw or another senior presenter will be at the scene for the BBC1 bulletins this evening.

Unlikely as World and the NC would both have had presenters scheduled, plus there is usually somebody separate for the network BBC One bulletins.

BBC One still making changes this afternoon

That looks wrong, like, incomplete. When I looked earlier they had Escape to the Country looking like it was on for five minutes (clearly incorrect as they simply hadn't got round to re-timing the programmes that followed it). I think the current position is that, following the extended lunchtime news, the schedule is running 25 minutes late. So that the 16.30 bulletin, which was previously scheduled, is now at 16.55. I don't think there will be a news on BBC One at 16.30: I think Jane Hill, at the end of the One O'Clock bulletin, said the next main news was at five to five. Look East (or whatever regional programme) will follow after the 16.55 national news (whether that will be extended I don't know) and Countryfile will either be 25 minutes late (17.20 not 16.55) or later if the news is extended, which will then either go straight to the Manchester Benefit Concert or, if the news at what I think is to be 16.55 is the same length as it was originally planned to be, that may leave time for another news bulletin after Countryfile and before the Concert.

That's what I'm reading into it. Very clear. (Bet it's all changed again on the schedule online during the time I've written all this and is now something completely different to what I've said.)

I imagine Countryfile will be at 16:55 with the news following at 17:55 as they try and move the news to 18:00 in these situations if at all possible.

Edit: News scheduled at 17:55 for 50 minutes, personally I think that is too long as there simply isn't the content to fill that length of time without a lot of repetitiveness.

I think you're right (and now your edit also is too) - I've rewound the i-Player and Jane Hill said next news was at 17.55. It may leave some time for other news, although the vast majority of the programme will be this major story. I don't know whether 50 minutes is too long - as for repetitiveness, arguably they manage to fill the News Channel with hours and hours of precisely that (although admittedly people are leaving and joining all the time on the News Channel, turning to it whenever they wake up or discover the news and want to know what's happened, rather than tuning for a set bulletin when it's on BBC One at 17.55).

Reeta has, effectively, covered 30 minutes of lunch. It's not unreasonable to have a day beginning at 9am and be there all day, until 5, or even 6, pm as many people do precisely that during a normal working day. So Jane could cover right up until 5.55. I'm also imagining Huw Edwards could be called in for the main evening bulletins (second presenter whoever was already due to be the BBC One presenter on shift had the traversy of these events not happened).

I think all broadcasters should be applauded for the coverage they've been providing. It's hard enough doing it for radio (I know, i've done it myself) but for TV, my hat comes off to all involved.

I notice there's always criticism when ITV News doesn't come on the air earlier, if that's the case then the same should be levelled at Channel 4 which has a wider public service remit.

It is a shame ITV no longer have their news channel, but it was only recently the BBC announced they were proposing to merge the BBC News channel and World News. It would be interesting to see how the BBC would have reacted if the channels had merged. We'll never know of course as those plans have been dropped, but it always poses those questions.

I suspect, on these events, there would have been little or no difference, as they are *World* events as well as UK ones. These events have a worldwide implication. It's the normal day-to-day stories that would have been affected.

Shaun Ley now on air. Looked like a co-presentation for the hour with Jane Hill, as he just mentioned that, but has now gone to Tim Willcox. So it's either Jane (and Shaun on the half hour with a bit of Tim) or Jane first half hour and Tim second with Shaun in between. Or something else as what looks predictable might not be.

Shaun Ley is about the last person I'd want on air in this situation, he always comes across as though he thinks people are watching because of him and not the content, and not in a good way.

I'd imagined he was the presenter all this morning but never got on air when Reeta started afternoon shift at 1.30pm. Clearly not. Seems Reeta was to be morning and Shaun from 2pm. The BBC doesn't have scope to change which presenters were on duty (beyond bringing more in). It was always due to be Shaun so that's who we have (though I suspect he won't be on air much apart from the half-hour link).

The NC presenters will still have to be in the studio as scheduled (it appears as though Reeta was on the AM shift and Shaun on the early PM), and the majority of people who cover world at the weekend are not exactly who you'd want on air during a major developing story (and really also still need to be in the studio in order to break away if something happens elsewhere in the world), so everyone who is on location will be additional to the planned presenters.

I agree that they don't have the resources to change scheduled presenters, it was more a comment about the overall reduction in quality of the presentation at weekends since the departures of Gavin Esler and Maxine Mawhinney (although it wouldn't surprise me if Reeta was a last minute change as Ben Brown seems to be the most common Sunday morning presenter), and Shaun always does the afternoon on Sundays.

Mainly Jane, with three others (Tim from World, Annita in Manchester and Shaun at the desk), plus possibly Sophie Long if she comes back on air again from Borough Market.

I assumed ITN's budget and therefore resources far exceeded Sky News. You hear so many comments on forums that the Sky News budget is miniscule in comparison to ITN/BBC.
