So ITV pulls away from a continuing news story which affects many people in the UK's capital... for Jackpot247. Dreadful.

I just can't understand it. They have a newscaster in the studio, two reporters on location and a security correspondent in the studio. Why don't they just carry on?

So strange. Any ITV viewer will just go switch to BBC/Sky to hear whats going on now.

Yes they will, that's if anyone was watching ITV News in the first place. I bet even ITV employees sometimes watch BBC and Sky

Maybe they are quite stretched so nobody is available to edit it. I bet even Sky News doesn't have 100 people on hand at 00:40 on a Saturday night.

I'd argue that it is perfectly reasonable to play it unedited in the early hours especially if they are warning before it is played.

According to Ofcom rules, You can't air racist slurs or very strong language at any time unless it is justified, and definitely not over and over again.

Who cares about Ofcom rules? And the word "justified" can be interpreted however anyone wants - I could say it was "justified" since this was a serious incident of real life.

It still didn't offend me. Do you know what? If I was with company with whom I might be offended, I would be more embarrassed that they had referred back to it by apologising and thus making the person or people I was watching with aware of something being said, and that would in fact probably make me uncomfortable. So that would have caused me offence, even though my discomfort ought to pale into insignificance compared to what is going on to the people in London Bridge and the two other areas. I realise - to get this back on track - broadcasters have to be careful. However, they are failing to be careful by apologising and referring me back to it and potentially causing me offence.

Another iPhone live from Tamara Cohen on Sky.

Actually, this is a thread about how broadcasters (in particular TV as TVForum) cover things so, in that context, clearly the "bad" language is the all-important thing and everything else is perversely not. I'm saying that, obviously, it influences broadcasters that have to comply with somewhat unimportant rules in the context of this overall tragedy.

Like Maxine Mawhinney on Diana, will Martine continue all night? As we are dealing with rules that are all arguably less significant than someone being killed in this incident, I am now worrying about health and safety of news presenters staying on shift beyond 5 hours.

Looks like some feeds are being pooled. A BBC reporter walked into shot of a live on Sky.

All of the major broadcasters (Sky and BBC) will be broadcasting in other countries where it won't be post watershed, and so they've got to keep everything clean.

He might not be able to travel to the studio if the city is still in lockdown.

The City, or even London, is not 'in lockdown'.

In such circumstances it's worth pointing out that London is a big place, the immediate area around the incident will be disrupted, but go 5 minutes down the road and things will essentially be business as usual. The same was true of Manchester last week.

The only broadcaster who whom this will be difficult logistically is Al Jazeera, who are in the cordon

Im thinking the world presenter who is normally on at this time might take over at 2:00am (UK Time) but I thought the same at 1:00am (UK Time) so time will only tell in this type of situation

I'd be very surprised if Martine stayed past 2am (I'm expecting a move to C and presenter change at 01:30 if I'm honest), she has been on air since 7pm and is almost certainly due back on air at 7pm tonight.

'The Watershed' is a British concept.
