Does anyone know if ITV still has the 9:45pm-ish promo for the Ten that they had back in the Trevor and Julie days, or was it ditched?

Think the only promo they have now is just before the ad break before News at Ten. Think they have a Ten promo on the 6.30 still though.

Don't think they have promo for Ten at 6:30 they just say at the end news at ten and who will be presenting. That may change from Monday though as they may want to get everybody watching if it is a new look.

Before Bradby, they used to have Julie or Mark give a summary of whats to come on NaT at the end of the 6:30. Haven't seen the end of the 6:30 since Bradby.

Also there is no promo at 9:45pm anymore, just the 10 second summary in the ad break before NaT.

The dedicated promo for the Ten has been dropped in the Evening News since the relaunch although it probably justifies it more now. Now the dust has settled on the shake up I wouldn't be surprised if it returned with this revamp.

That's one ugly intro, even by 80s standards.

I know and unbelievably it was used from 1976 until 1988! Not 2 or 3 years maximum like nowadays! However, it's a classic synthesised news tune though!! They don't make them like that any more.

This video of the '545' revamp in 1988 uses a slight variation of the theme music which I didn't remember at first. There is an extra bit of music before the headlines start, and a nice ending version. (There is also a nice LWT ident at the start)

Perhaps this wasn't changed until 1989, when it altered to the '540' with the introduction of the sponsored weather at 5:55. The earliest I can find is from 1989. (With an awful corporate HTV ident)

Ah . . . memories. Very Happy

Thanks Stuart - this has always been one of my favourite ITN designs. Interestingly, I found a snippet about the 1988 545 relaunch in ITN's in-house newsletter:

It's funny how they saw the 1988 relaunch as getting ready for the 90s - when in fact with hindsight, the design is very 80s! By the time the early 90s came around, news design had moved on even further.

Great shame when the Regional News is interrupted by adverts especially during the weather.

Peston's view on it all, saying he'll never bad mouth the BBC but wants to humiliate them.

And also regarding tomorrows revamp:
Quote:
On Monday night, ITV’s News at Ten will get a revamp with a new title sequence including more dramatic music and nationwide graphics.

Can't picture what "nationwide graphics" could mean.

Tonight [Monday 18 January] ITV’s News at Ten is to be revamped with more dramatic music including Big Ben’s chimes, and graphics that feature the cities of Edinburgh, Belfast and Cardiff as well as London.

You would assume that the cities will feature as the images within the squares, if they are to remain consistent with the current nations/regions design

'more dramatic music including big ben's chimes'
Well they haven't dropped the chimes and so therefore I'm beginning to wonder if we'll have an all new new theme and bed perhaps much different to what we have now.

I'm hoping 'dramatic' doesn't mean that they'll be using that one that they used for the election as it was far from it. Here's hoping Dave Hewson has worked his magic again.

It sounds as if it might just be a more dramatic reworking of The Awakening rather an all-new theme. I agree the election theme was unusually disappointing - I suppose Dave Hewson was just delivering to the brief though - ITV have been keeping as close as possible to the house style on election night recently. But the News at Ten format is now distinctly different from those of the other bulletins that I'd expect a little more oomph than we got from the election theme.
