I thought it was much better than last night. Only three bongs though - not good. Like RDJ I'm not keen on the focus on fewer stories. I really don't like the constant references to "our times", "our children", "our country", "what are WE going to do about it" etc. A trifle patronising. I'm not sure it's an issue of Alex Chandler not getting the memo that ITV News ditched the gimmicks years ago - the reports are still top-class, it's just Bradby's links which bring down the programme. Shouldn't he best leave it to the usual bulletin writers? And as said previously, the general feeling is that it's an attempt to reposition News at Ten as a sort of Newsnight-style programme, but it's missing the mark (no pun intended) so far.

And Bradby's constant intakes of air and/or saliva..... Shocked

The tribute to Sue Lloyd Roberts was awful and probably should have been made at the end of the programme and without his personal insight.

I'm not sure the longer reports really added much to what we already know and the interview after then child self harm report was unnecessary.

I'm not sure why they didn't just make the changes either using Mark and/or Julie. Tom seems a bit wasted as the presenter and frankly he's not that great at it.

For a bulletin that is supposed to round up the events of the day, we have only had five stories reported on.

That is clearly not the brief of the relaunched show. The trouble is they probably need longer than the half hour to their own focused reports and also adequately cover the main headlines - an extra 10-15 minutes could make all the difference.

If they have to go single headed, to me this style would better suit Mark Austin but with conventional type linking between the items.

But for whatever reason they appear to want to create Tom Bradby into some kind of news personality.

I thought it was just me who thought this. Good to read someone else feels the same. Don't like the new feel of the programme at all. Sad Sad

I'm almost expecting Olly Murs to be presenting the News At Ten next...***shudders***.

Could anyone sit through it though??
The pace has been killed. The 35 minute run time feels like an hour.

One plus for me; I'm seeing under resourced ITV News London in a new light. I feel like I've had more news from the London team in 7 mins than I got from 35 (long) minutes of the Tom Bradby show.

The whole thing is so patronising - 'none of us expect our aeroplane to be shot out of the sky... parents must be sat at home in shock by that report...'. The script is terrible - does the autocue do punctuation or has he rehearsed? His (dramatic effect) pauses are all over the place.

Also the running order is a joke. It took 10 minutes for them to bother reporting the MH17 inquiry which was clearly the most important news story of today. Sad though the news of Sue Lloyd-Roberts is, there was no need for it to be mentioned when it was. Bradby's overly personal tribute also jarred. Regardless of how genuine he is, that and all the other dramatic language used throughout makes him come across as completely fake.

Christ. They're even attempting to predict the news now.

To be fair the Sunday BBC News at Ten also does a preview of the week ahead. Of course the argument is that a Sunday is generally a quiet day and is a more appropriate time to highlight whats coming up.

Bizarrely there is lots of positive comment on Twitter again, which is unusual considering they usually hate everything, particularly anything new.

I think we know now though why it's unlikely any presenters from the regular bulletin roster will be standing in, as it would be like a completely different programme.

Bradby's contribution was little more than "a newsy chat with your mate Tom": unprofessional and dumbed down beyond recognition. I won't be watching again.

There are many things you could say about News at Ten, but I don't think "dumbing down" is one of them, and that just sounds like the easiest criticism to say. If they'd spent the first 15 mins on a light consumer story about Tesco or something you'd have a point.

The delivery IS dumbed down though.

Chatty, informal, patronising. I really dislike the way he builds up to reports.

^ Yes indeed, which may indicate that Bradby either heavily tweaks the written links or writes them himself. Not good.

He was better than this on election night when he was merely detailing the incoming counts, unlike now where it appears he's editorialising the news to an extent.

It's odd if they are "dramatic pauses" as they feel like they are in the wrong place. He stopped mid-sentence into the child self-harm intro, and I think it was because he was fluffing the intro rather than for effect. Such an awkward silence as he tried to recover.

Tonight's order:
1. Report on immigrants in Lesbos
2. Report on immigrants settling in Germany
3. Report on MH17 Report
4. Report on Saudi flogging
5. Mention of Sue Lloyd-Roberts death
6. Report on Labour Party policy argument
7. Report on child self-harm, then follow-up in studio
8. Report/interview with The Kinks
9. What might be on tomo's programme

BBC Ten o'clock News

1. Report about MH17 Report
2. Report on Saudi flogging
3. Report on violent attacks in Israel today
4. Mention of freeze to benefits next year due to inflation figures
5. Report on Labour Party policy argument
6. Mention of gang related killing in Salford
7. Report on immigrants now entering EU via Serbia
8. Report on findings into murder of a 17y/o girl in Telford
9. Mention of Sue Lloyd-Roberts death
10. Mention of US Democratic nomination debate. Live two-way to Las Vegas ahead of debate.
11. Live interview with Man Booker prizewinner announced tonight, with Will Gompertz at ceremony.
12. Finish with images of final Vulcan bomber flypast.

A few more stories covered on BBC One, and did feel like a fuller roundup of the day's news.

I suppose at least there are clear differences in approach now.
